Avengers win South Confrence Championship with 22-2 win over Raiders

The Alabama Avengers had a slow start Saturday night in the South Confrence Championship game verses the Georgia Raiders, but pulled away in the 2nd half. Desmond Bothwell, Cody Cooper and Joe King each had touchdowns for the Avengers. Game stats are soon to come.

QB Otis Graves Wins NDFL MVP Award

 Thomason named NDFL Coach of the Year

National Developmental Football League President Chad Randolph announced today that Alabama Avengers Dusty Thomason has been named Coach of the Year! Quarterback Otis Graves leads the voting for League MVP at this point. Voting will continue through May 1, 2010.

 

Avengers to play Raiders again...this time for NDFL South Confrence Championship

For the third time this season, the Avengers and Raiders are prepairing for war. In week 3, the Raiders came to Alabama and were shut out 22-0. In the final week of the regular season, the Avengers traveled to Georgia to tie the Raiders 20-20. With the tie, the Avengers finished the as the NDFL Regular Season Champions!!! This week the two teams go at it in the playoffs. Game will be played @ West Elementary School 303 Rosemont Ave, Cullman, AL 35005. Kickoff is set for 6pm.

 

#23 Avengers tie Raiders 20-20 in OT

The Alabama Avengers and the Georgia Raiders battled to a overtime game last Saturday at New Birth Stadium in Lithonia, GA.  Even with the tie, the Avengers are the NDFL REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS!!!!!

Avengers Ready For Raiders

The Alabama Avengers will be back in action this week when they travel to the Georgia Raiders on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4pm EST. The Avengers can clinch the NDFL regular season championship with a win.

 

#16Avengers roll up 529 yards in 34-24 win over #35 Marietta Hitmen

The Alabama Avengers remained perfect in league play on Saturday by holding off the visiting Marietta Hitmen 34-24 at Springville High School. The Hitmen opened the game strong by jumping out to a quick 12-0 lead in the first quarter. In the 2nd quarter, QB Otis Graves hit WR Desmond Bothwell on a quick slant and he went 53 yards for the score. The try for two was denied. Later in the 2nd, Coach Thomason went to his book of trickery. WR Desmond Bothwell found RB Montrell Parker on a reverse pass. Parker went 62 yards to tie the game 12-12. The try for two was no good. In the 3rd quarter, the Avengers again fell behind 18-12 before Graves plunged in from 1 yard out. The PAT was blocked for an 18-18 tie. Once again the Hitmen found the endzone and their PAT was blocked for a 24-18 advantage. The Avengers would own the 4th quarter, scoring 16 unanswered points. First, backup QB Cody Cooper scored from 3 yards out and also caught the two point conversion pass from Graves to go up 26-24. Later in the quarter, QB Graves called his own number on a QB bootleg. Graves also scored the two point conversion.

The Avengers offensive line opened holes and gave the QB's plenty of time to throw saturday. Three Quarterbacks combined for 13 of 19 for 273 yards and 2 TDs and 1 INT. Seven backs combined for 256 yards on 39 carries and 3 TDs. Joe King led all rushers with 96 yards on 10 carries. The Avengers Defense forced 5 turnovers. Montrell Parker, Shaun Hawkins and Tyler Barger all had an INT. Anthony Whittington and Jonathan Lowe had fumble recoveries.

 

Avengers Crack Top 20 National Ranking with 13-12 Win Over Bandits

The much talked about Georgia Bandits made the trip to Alabama on March 20th to face the undefeated Avengers. The Bandits struck first on their opening drive and went up 6-0 early in the game. But the Avengers answered and tied the game 6-6 when QB Otis Graves plunged into the endzone on a QB Sneek. The try for two was denied. Later in the first half, the Bandits defense came up big, picking off Graves and returning it for a TD. The try for two failed, and the Bandits took a 12-6 lead at the half. The second half was a defensive battle for both teams. The Avengers came up with defensive TD when John "Cornbread" Spence stripped a Bandit ball carrier and raced to the endzone to tie the game. The Avengers kicker Richie Rhodes, a 3 time All-American at Jacksonville State, split the uprights for the game winning point. With the win, the Avengers moved up to #16 in the National Semipro BCS Rankings.

#24 Avengers vs #23 Bandits

This week the Avengers are ranked #24 in the latest National Semipro BCS rankings and will be hosting #23 Georgia Bandits. Come out to Springville High School Saturday March 20 @ 2pm and watch this Top 25 Border War!

Avengers 22 Raiders 0

Blountsville- The Alabama Avengers went to 3-0 on the year with a 22-0 shutout of the Georgia Raiders Saturday. The Avengers held the visiting Raiders to just 20 yards of total offense. The Avengers Defense has held all three league opponents to negative 7 yards combined. Cody Cooper got the Avengers rolling in the first quarter when he caught a 20 yard TD pass from QB Otis Graves. PAT was wide left giving the home team a 6-0 advantage. In the 2nd quarter, RB Montrell Parker stomped his way into the endzone from 3 yards out. Graves again found Cooper for the two point conversion putting the Avengers on top 14-0. On fourth and long, the Raiders center snapped the ball out of the endzone for a safety. Later in the 2nd, a 39 yard pass from Graves to Cooper set the Avengers up on the 1 yard line. Graves called his own number for the final score of the game. The PAT was blocked.
 
The Avengers ended with 222 yards on the ground and Graves was 6 of 9 for 139 yds 1 TD 1 INT. Cooper finished the day with 4 receptions for 78 yds and 1 TD.  RB Joe King led all rushers with 110 yds on 16 carries. On the year, King has 332 yds on 29 touches for 11.4 yds per carry. Graves is 14 of 25 for 259 yds 1 TD 3 INT.

Avengers 45 GA Vikings 8

Blountsville- The Alabama Avengers exploded for 31 points in the second half to crush the visiting Georgia Vikings 45-8 @ J.B. Pennington High School. Desmond Bothwell got the Avengers going early in the 1st qtr when he picked off a Viking pass and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was blocked leaving the home team on top 6-0. In the second quarter the Avengers again found the endzone when Quarterback Otis Graves plunged in from 1 yard out. The two-point conversion run by Joe King put the Avengers ahead 14-0 to end the half. In the second half, QB Graves added another 1 yard TD run and called his own number on the two point try for a 22-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Georgia's Cordell Horner returned it 65 yards for the Vikings lone score. The two point run was good to close the gap to 22-8. For the second week in a row, Defensive End Richie Kent recovered a fumble in the endzone for a touchdown. Rhodes added the PAT to extend the Avengers lead to 29-0. Graves again found the endzone for another 1 yard touchdown run and Bothwell converted the two-point attempt to put the game out of reach 37-0. In the final minutes of the game, Michael Archibald picked off his second pass of the day and returned it 80 yards for the Avengers final touchdown. With a bad snap on the PAT attempt, Graves rolled out and found Anthony Whittington in the endzone to end the scoring for both teams 45-8.

 
The Avengers rolled up 350 yards on the ground while Graves completed 4 of 10 passes for 68 yards and an INT. The Avengers had 418 yards in total offense while limiting the Vikings to just 20 yards. HB Joe King had 175yds on 11 carries. QB Otis Graves 91yds on 14 carries 3 TDs 4 of  10 passing for 68yds INT. Michael Archibald 2 INT 102 return yds 1 TD. Desmond Bothwell 48yd INT returned for TD. Richie Kent Fumble recovery for TD.

Avengers 44 GA Trojans 0

Blountsville- The Alabama Avengers opened the 2010 season Saturday with a convincing 44-0 shutout of the visiting Georgia Trojans at W.R Sutton Memorial Stadium. Tyler Barger scored first on an 11 yard reverse and Montrell Parker added the 2 point conversion to put the home team up 8-0. QB Otis Graves added another score in the 1st quarter and Richie Rhodes PAT had the Avengers on top 15-0 to end the quarter. Defensive End Richie Kent got the scoreboard moving in the 2nd quarter when he recovered a bad snap in the endzone. Wes Blankenship walked in for the 2 point conversion as the Avengers went up 23-0. After another impressive drive, Graves made his second trip to the endzone and Rhodes PAT was good for an overbearing 30-0 halftime lead. In the 4th quarter, Debori Bothwell hammered his way into the endzone and another Rhodes PAT pushed the Avengers lead to 37-0. Joe King took a handoff off the right side and romped 47 yards untouched to the endzone to end the scoring for the home team. Rhodes kicked his fourth extra point for a final score of 44-0.The Avengers finished the game with 289 yards of total offense while limiting the Trojans to minus 47 yards. The Avengers will host the the Georgia Vikings this Saturday @ J.B. Pennington with kickoff scheduled for 1:30pm. Admission is $7 for Adults and children 10 and under admitted free.
