R. Miller's Cardinals Season is Over

The R. Miller's Cardinals came up empty handed in their semi-final series against the Estevan Blazers. Estevan jumped all over the Cards 13 - 1 in game #1 in Yorkton. Yorkton returned the favour jumping out to a 6 - 2 lead in game #2 in Estevan but the pitching staff couldn't find consistency and the Cards ended up losing 11-10 in two extra innings despite turning the first TRIPLE PLAY in PMBL playoff history. The Cards end the season 5 games over .500 however the record doesn't indicate the truth of their season. The Cards battled through a large number of "lost man games" and had to take the long and hard route through every game in the season. The R. Miller's Cards had to battle tooth and nail for every out and run which is a valuable lesson that all the players will take with them. The Cards established grit this year and next year's team should be able to maneuver themselves through the tough times that other teams won't be able to. The Cards improve to the 25 win mark for the first time in the team's history, suprassing their 16 win mark from last season. Furthermore, the Cards finished 1st in two tournaments, both in the U.S.A. This is the first season the Cards won a tournament in the U.S.A. With a strong contigent of players returning and a handful of talented first year midgets moving up next year the team's future looks very bright. Great battle Cards, things didn't end the way we wanted them to but all of you are better baseball players today than you were yesterday.

Congrads to Skyler Hladun!!!

   R. Miller's Cardinals rookie 3rd baseman Skyler Hladun was selected as the Boston Pizza Player of the Week in the PMBL Midget AAA Divison for the week of July 4 - 11. Skyler went 9-13 at the plate while making several defensive gems at the hot corner. Great job Skyler!

Cards Clinch a Playoff Spot with a Come from Behind Thriller!!!

The R. Miller's Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom half of the last inning to upset the Regina Athletics 3-2 in the first game of their double header. Although the Cards didn't know if they had clinched after the first game, the Cards rallied hard against the Athletics in game two of the doubleheader but came up short. Nonetheless, the Cards put together a strong finish through a bumpy season and are now in the hunt for the PMBL League Title.

Cards Win the 1st National Bank Invitational Baseball Classic!!!

The R. Miller's Cardinals walked into Williston, N.D. this weekend and walked out Tournament Champions. Carried by strong pitching performances, timely offense, and terrific defense, the R. Miller's Cardinals gutted out five straight wins to capture the 1st National Bank Invitational Baseball Classic. Tournament highlights included a come from behind thriller against Wolf Point, Montana in quarter-final action followed by two straight wins against the #2 Minnesota state ranked Excelsior Mudhens. Logan Calanchie picked up two wins on the weekend which included a complete game win over Excelsior in the tournament final. Brett Kobelka was named the tournaments Offensive MVP while Dalane Lamb took home the 1st National Bank Invitational Baseball Classic Tournament MVP Award. Detailed statistics for the games will be entered on the website on July 14th. The R. Miller's Cardinals hope to keep their playoff dreams alive as they battle the Regina Athletics at Jubilee Park on Tuesday July 15th.

Congrads to Skyler Hladun!

The R. Miller's Cardinals third baseman Skyler Hladun has been selected to Team Saskatchewan's 16 year old Developmental Team. Every year, Team Saskatchewan selects 20 of the top 15 and 16 year old players in the province to represent Saskatchewan at the Fall Prospects Series against Team Alberta and Team Manitoba. Furthermore, these identified players attend training camps throughout the year and receive instruction from the best baseball minds in the province in order to further their development and to reach the ultimate goal of representing Team Saskatchewan at the Canada Cup. Skyler's hard work, mental toughness and athleticism have enabled Skyler to become a consistent defensive and offensive player. Great work Skyler!

Congrads to Logan Calanchie and Andrew Minchuk!

   R. Miller's Cardinals RHP Logan Calanchie and LHP Andrew Minchuk have been selected to compete for Team Saskatchewan at the Baseball Canada Cup in Medicine Hat this August. Team Saskatchewan will compete in the A Pool against Team Ontario, Team Quebec, and Team B.C. The Canada Cup is Canada's prestigious U-17 showcase tournament in which each province sends their top 20 U-17 baseball players to compete in front of numerous college, MLB, and Team Canada scouts. Players that have played in this tournament and have ended up in the MLB include the likes of Jeff Francis, Eric Gagne, Adam Loewen, and Russel Martin. R. Miller's Cardinals head coach Evan Wasylyniuk has been selected to Team Saskatchewan's coaching staff and will also be travelling to the Canada Cup in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Great job guys!!!
