we played fairly well. Our pitching was strong out of the gate. Whitaker
and Simmons did well. The younger arms still need to develop and be able t

.The Western Valley will be very strong this year. Most teams return the h

220\, they were not disappointed. It was a classic game between two great
programs. The Patriots started the scoring early and took a 1-0 lead head
ing into the home half of the first. But\, the Eagles responded with their
own run support and pushed three across to bring the score to 3-1 after o
ne complete. For the Patriots\, their scoring was not done. PH rallied for
2 runs in the top of the second to knot the game at 3 apiece. Junior pitc
her Aaron Burton held the Eagles in the nest pitching 3 shut out innings.
'I think Aaron gave us everything he had in the tank. He did a great job m
ixing his pitches and keeping a good hitting team off balance.' said Head
Coach Aaron Haigler. With Burton holding the Eagles off\, the diamond Patr
iots continued to push runs across the plate\, posting runs in the all but
2 innings of play. Senior 1B Kemper Steffe continued to have the hot bat
having a 2-3 day touching all bags twice and driving in 2 runs. 'Kemper ha

.' added Haigler. Other Patriots having good days were Junior Will Kaufman

ving in 1 run. Franklin County made it close as they rallied back scoring
2 in the 5th and 3 in the 6th making the score 9-8 PH going into the 7th i

eir chances but we stayed the course and pulled out the W.' said Haigler.
'For me\, the turning point in the games was Burton throwing behind the st
randed runner at 2B for the out. That play really took some wind out of FC

for the Patriots. With the win\, Patrick Henry stands 2-0 in the WVD and w
ill head to Danville on Tuesday night to take on yet another Eagle team. '
Danville was young last year but seem to be playing really good baseball.
We will have to play another good game and take care of the baseball.' Hai

DESCRIPTION:Patrick Henry made a long cold trip down to George Washington D
anville for their third Western Valley District game. The Patriots are rid
ing a two game win streak as played host GW Danville Eagles. Hoping to bui
ld off great game againist Franklin County the Patriots captured their thi
rd win in the district. Patrick Henry was paced on the mound by Sophomore
Zach Whitaker who picked up his second district win in as many starts. 'Za
ch pitched a great game. He is beginning to develop into a good high schoo
l pitcher.' Head Coach Aaron Haigler said. 'He [Whitaker] had good control
of all his pitches tonight. When he is on\, he is tough to beat. I like t
hat he works quickly and waste little time on the mound.' added Haigler. A
t the plate\, the Patriots were lead by Sophomore Aaron Burton who went 2-
2 with a single and double. 'AB is going to be a good high school hitter.
he has a good approach and is adjusting the the speed of the game better e
ach at bat.' said Haigler. Along with leading PH at the plate\, Burton mad
e some really nice plays down at third base. 'Aaron really takes pride in
playing defense. Everyday at practice\, he is always the dirtiest kid..he
goes full speed and is a hard nosed player.' Haigler said of Burton. Also
producing at the plate was Senior Yates Sayers. With Sayers&#039\;s triple
\, PH now has a tally in every offensive column. With the triple lasst nig
ht\, Sayers continued his offensive attack. 'The word will quickly spread
about Sayers ability to hit. He will be an offensive threat as we move on
through the season.' added Haigler. Despite the win\, PH made some crucial
errors in the field (4 errors) but Whitaker was able to quickly put out t
he Ealges with stops on the mound. 'I told the players the mistakes we mad
e are physical mistakes and are correctable. We botched two double play ba
lls to get us out of the inning but were able to quill any late charge by
the Eagles.' Haigle said. Altogether\, the Diamond Patriots played well\,
GW may say not good enough to win\, but when the dust settled Patrick Henr
y came away with the victory. 'Its always nice to win on the road\, especi
ally at GW. The fans are tough and though young\, GW always plays well aga
inst Patrick Henry.' added Haigler. With the win at GW Danville\, the Patr
iots improve to 3-0 in Western Valley play and move to 3-4 overall on the
season. \n\nNext up for the Patrtiots will be cross town rival Northside V
ikings. The Varisty will play host to Northside on April 8 and then travel
to Northside on April 9. Game time for both days will be 5:00.

DESCRIPTION:As the old saying goes\, 'It&#039\;s nice to be in the comforts

the theory. Patrick Henry had a difficult time getting things going again

his command but we could not capatilize on his walks. We started out bein
g patient but gave in to the desire to hit.' Head Coach Aaron Haigler said
. The visiting Vikings were able to push one run across off PH starter Kem
per Steffe. Dragging 1 run\, PH pushed two across in the 1st and 2nd innin
gs to take an early 4-3 lead. After going up 5-3\, the Patriots gave up 4
runs sandwiched between a few hits and errors by the defense. After 5 comp

not put together a late charge. Steffe picked up his first loss and first
career start in the days action. Despite the loss\, Patrick Henry made som

will then take advantage of some days off as they prepare for the spring

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday&#039\;s game pitted Halifax County vs. Patrick Henry in
a battle for first place in the Western Valley. With what began as a rain
and dreary day\, it turned out to be a nice afternoon for baseball. Patri
ck Henry began the scoring with a 1-0 lead after one complete. Sophomore Z
ach Whitaker began the game with a 4 pitch and 11 pitch inning and seemed
to be handling the Comet hitters with easy. Halifax was able to push one a
cross in their half of the third to knot the score a 1 each. Early on\, th
e Patriots left to many runners on and had some unlucky hops from the base
ball. 'We took advantage of the their starter and were patient at the plat
 e. We were able to get him in the stretch and it was working. Steffe groun
ded into the DP and that really shifted the momentum to their side of the
field.' said Head Coach Aaron Haigler. In the first three innings\, PH lef
t 8 guys on base with 6 in scoring position. In the forth\, Halifax took a
dvantage of costly errors and were able to expand the lead. Not to be outd
one\, the Patriots rallied back to within a single run. The 5th inning see
med to be the undoing of Patrick Henry. 'We cannot allow teams to have ext
ra outs. Halifax hits very well and they capitalized on our mistakes.' add
ed Haigler. After 5 complete\, the Comets had a commanding lead of 12-6. T
he score would remain until the end of the game. Offensively for Patrick H
enry\, they were lead by Junior Brad Sowers who was 2-3 with 2 doubles\, 2
RS and 2 RBIs. As has become the norm\, Senior 2B Gary Fitzgerald continu
ed his HBP streak by taking a pitch in the leg. With the loss to Halifax\,
Patrick Henry falls to 3-1 in the WVD and 5-7 overall. \n\nThe Patriots w
ill not be back in action until Saturday\, April 25 as Bassett travels up
220 to Edwards Field. The William Fleming game slated for Thursday has bee
n postponed due to a school trip at William Fleming. The game has been res
cheduled for May 7. Location is not yet determined.
