Game Notes: Athletes Corner of Longview Babe Ruth banged out a team record 16 hits and plated 18 runs in defeating Rua Accounting, 18-10.

AC's offense came to live immediately, as leadoff hitter Austin Wegdahl walked and was doubled to third by Branick Herold. Scotty Kirkpatrick then lined a single to right center to score Wegdahl and Herold. Sean Atkins singled and he and Kirkpatrick moved up on a double steal and scored on a single by Alex Lovingfoss. Lars Ertolacci then laced AC's 6th consecutive single, but was thrown out at second. Eli Lovingfoss' hard grounder plated his cousin Alex, and Eli was safe at first when the shortstop bobbled the ball. Zac McDonald then coaxed a walk, but Lovingfoss was out at 3rd on a double steal attempt. After Nam Le walked, Michael Bartel lined a single into left center to score McDonald with the 6th and final run of the inning.

In the bottom of the first, Rua's Gavin Johnson led off with a walk off starter Eli Lovingfoss and Daniel Harmon singled but was out attempting to steal second. Cody Whitten then lashed a single to left center, and Boston Peterson's double to deap right center plated Johnson and Whitten, leaving the score at AC6, Rua 2 going into the second inning.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Herold hit an infield single and advanced to second when Kirkpatrick singled. Atkins then singled in Herold and stole second as Kirkpatrick took 3rd. Alex Lovingfoss then reached the right field fence with a long drive, producing a triple that plated 2 more runs. Unfortunately, on appeal, the umpire ruled that he had missed second base, as alertly noted by first baseman Nick Wells. Lars Ertolacci then singled, but was later picked off first base. Heading toward the bottom of the second, AC led 9-2.

Alex Anagnostou led off for Rua, with a single, and advanced to second on a wild pitch, only to be caught stealing on a great throw from Wegdahl to Herold. The next two hitters grounded out, and AC still led 9-2.

In the 3rd, with one out, McDonald walked and was forced at second by Nam Le, who stole second and advanced to third on Bartel's second hit of the game. Both were stranded, but the lead stood at 9-2 entering the bottom of the 3rd, when Harmon singled, advanced to 3rd base on a double by Cody Whitten, and scored on a wild pitch. before Lovingfoss retired the side. 9-3, was AC's lead.

In the 4th, Wegdahl walked, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on a grounder to the right side by Kirkpatrick. Atkins then collected his 3rd hit but was left stranded after stealing second base. AC had 10 and Rua, 3.

In the bottom of the 4th, Michael Bartel made his pitching debut, retiring the first batter on a grounder to Kirkpatrick. However, Johnson reached on an error and Harmon was hit by a pitch and Whitten reached on a fielder's choice, scoring a run. Whitten was thrown out later trying to steal second. A walk to Peterson loaded the bases, and Johnson beat the throw home on an infield grounder. Wells was then hit by a pitch, and Anagnostou walked. Wells then was caught stealing 3rd base and DJ Smith reached on a fielder's choice before Payne was hit by another pitch. Two runners scored on Joshua Johanson Kubin's sharp single. After advancing to second, Kubin was thrown out trying to steal 3rd, and the side was finally retired, but not till Rua had scored 6 runs on only 1 hit. Rua was within 1 run at 10-9.

Lady Luck returned to AC in teh top of the 5th when Ertolacci walked, Eli Lovingfoss reached on an error, and Le walked, loading the bases for Bartel, who singled in two. Taylor Beck's triple, s smash to the wall in right center plated Bartel, and Wegdahl's single scored him to make it 14-9. Next, Herold nursed a walk as Wegdahl stole 2nd and 3rd. Kirkpatrick's infield single scored Wegdahl and advanced Herold to 3rd. Kirkpatrick then stole 2nd and Atkins's 4th hit of the game drove in Herold. Alex Loingfoss' RBI groundout made it 18-9 as the teams finished the top of the 5th..


In the bottom of the 5th, Peterson reached on an error, advanced on a two base error and scored by tagging up on Nick Wells' Texas Leaguer into left field, which was snagged by Kirkpatrick on an over the shoulder diving catch. The lead looked safe at 18-10.

In the top of the 6th, Eli Lovingfoss reached on an error for the 3rd time of the game, and advanced to third on McDonald's single. Both were stranded, so the score remained 18-10 going into the bottom of the 6th, as the sun set in the west.

Michael Bartel's spectacular grab of a sinking liner in left was followed by a single by Payne, who was erased on a great play by Beck and Kirkpatrick. Two groundouts ended the game.

Next action for AC is Wednesday, June 6 against The Nickel, with the game to be played at Mark Morris HS at 6:30pm. Friday's game against Olympic Drug will be at the usual 6pm starting time, as will a Sunday game against Olympic and a Monday game against Rua's.
