Game Notes: Great game today.. We played a great defensive game, In the first inning Washington hit the ball in good spots and scored 3 runs. We made some good plays in the infield to hold them to 3 runs. In the bottom half, the tide came rolling in and we put a big 5 spot on the board to keep the pressure on. Branan, Brandon, Dawson, Jonah, Jalen, Mitch, and David had big hits to score HUGE runs. Little did we know, that was all we needed. In the second, we held them scoreless on 2 strikeouts and a nice play at 2nd and SS. Unfortunately, we couldn't get anything going either. This was turning into a game of defense, just how we like them! In the 3rd, they got their first two batters on base. After a strikeout, we turned a HUGE double play to end the rally. Jonah caught a fly ball and doubled the runner off second base for the twin killing. In the bottom half, we couldn't get anything going again. Branan had a single and Brandon got robbed on a hard hit line drive right to the SS. Nice play all the way around. Dawson then hit a grounded to 1st to close out the inning. In the top of the 4th, after two singles, they had 2 strikeouts. Then they hit the ball to Jalen at 3rd. He ran over to the bag and stepped on the bag for an easy last out! Rally denied! In the bottom half, Jonah led off with a single. After 1 out, Jalen hit a grounder and made out, but Jonah moved all the way around to 3rd on good hustle. David then got another big hit to drive in a much needed insurance run. On to the 5th inning with a 6-3 lead. What defense we had in the 5th. Their lead off hitter hit a grounder to Branan McGee for a nice out at first. The second batter struck out. The 3rd batter hit a grounder to Jonah who fired to first for the last out of the inning and game! Final score Bama 6, Washington 3.
All around great defensive game. Everyone moved to the ball and did exactly what we needed to move ahead and get the outs. We had outs at every base (except home). We threw runners out from SS and 2B. We turned a double play and caught a runner napping and over running the bag. We did exactly what we needed. We shut them out for the last 4 innings of the game. I see improvement from every player on defense and understanding the game. As long as we keep improving, we will have a great season. We need to start hitting the ball a little better, but we have scored enough to get the job done.
The following players were perfect at the plate and all 2 for 2: Branan, Jonah, Mitch and David. Jonah and David had 2 big RBI's each. Brandon, Dawson, Jalen, and Alex had one hit. Great job everyone. Get ready to play Notre Dame Sunday.
