Game
Notes:
Bama 12, Arkansas 5 Very good game tonight against the razorbacks. In the top of the first, Branan led off the game with a solid single to right field. Alex is a great #2 hole hitter and had a single to send Branan to 2nd base. After Dawson grounded out to move the runners up a base. Jonah had a solid single to right center that drove in 2 runs. We couldn't get another run across the plate unfortunately. In the bottom half, Arkansas struck out with their lead off hitter, then Branan caught a nice line drive diving to his left for the 2nd out. Their 3rd batter hit a hard grounder to short that Jonah gobbled up and threw to Dawson for a 1-2-3 inning! In the second inning, we scored 2 again. Griffin led off with a solid hit up the middle. After a strikeout, Brandon had a nice single to move the runner up. That brought up Calvin. Even though Calvin grounded out to first base, he made a productive out which moved both runners into scoring position. That is a great productive out. You don't have to get hits to contribute. Hitting the ball is key! Mitch stepped up with 2 on and 2 out. He came through with flying colors by knocking a solid single to left field to drive in both runs! Will grounded out to end the top half. In the bottom half, we held them scoreless again. After a strikeout, Jonah threw out another batter on a nice 6-3 put out. Branan did a good job of catching the throw at first. Arkansas got a hit then a slow roller to Branan at first that ended the inning. Bama 4, Arkansas 0 after 2. In the 3rd inning, our bats came alive. After one out, Branan smoked a ball past the second baseman for a single. Alex followed with another hit and Dawson drove them both home with a double to right center. Jonah stepped up and almost left the yard with a hard hit double off the top of the fence in left center. Dawson scored easily. Jalen grounded out moving Jonah to 3rd.(another productive out!). Griffin then rocketed a ball to left center for a double as Jonah trotted home. David finished off the inning with a solid hit to right center to score Griffin! 5 Runs on 8 batters. Great job. In the bottom half, Arkansas hit a ball to left of Brandon at 3rd. Jonah went in the hole and threw across the diamond for a big first out of the inning. Great play! Arkansas then struck out twice for another quick 1-2-3 inning. In the 4th , we scored 1 run. Brandon led off with a solid single to 3rd. Then Calvin made another productive out moving Brandon into scoring position with a ground out. Mitch then got his 3rd RBI of the night with another hard hit! Unfortunately that is all we got, but led 10-0 after 3 1/2 innings. In the bottom half, Arkansas came alive and hit the ball all over and scored 5 runs to pull within 5. In the 5th, we scored 2 runs on hits by Alex, Dawson, Jonah, Jalen, and Griffin. In the bottom half, Jalen made a nice play at 3rd charging a soft grounder and firing to first for the first out of the inning. After Arkansas got a couple of hits, they struck out twice to end the game at 12-5 Bama! The following players were 3 for 3 today--Alex, Jonah, and Griffin. Alex did a great job setting the table for the thumpers in the lineup to do their job! Jonah had 4 RBI's today to go with his 3 hits. Griffin had some huge hits to keep rallies alive and to start rallies! Branan, Dawson, Brandon and Mitch had 2 hits. Mitch was 2 for 2 with 3 huge RBI's. Brandon was also 2 for 2 and scored 2 runs. Will, David, and Jalen had 1 hit each. Although Calvin didn't have a hit he had 2 very productive outs and is hitting better! Although Anthony didn't get on today, he is trying and always comes to the park with a great attitude. He fouled a couple of balls off that I thought were going to stay fair for a hit. We did a good job off getting the ball in from the outfield again. Everyone has improved so much offensively and especially defensively it is hard to imagine where we were at the beginning. Great job everyone...see you at Practice on Tuesday....get ready for the Dog's on Saturday. |
