| Game Notes: The Thunder (1-0) opened its 2009 campaign with a 12-2 non-league win over Western Division foe Edina. Veteran righthander Robbie Sikich (1-0) went four innings, yielding just three hits and two earned runs. Sikich struck out eight of the 16 batters he faced, and walked just two. Joey Voss and Kellen Kersten each pitched one inning of scoreless relief. The offense was ignited by lead-off hitter Peter Zukanoff, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Every Thunder batter made a contribution to the effort, with Kersten (1B,2BB,SB), Sam Foy (1B,3BB), Matt Lilledahl (3BB,RS), Voss (2BB) each reaching base two or more times. Matt DeCovich (BB,RBI) scored once and gunned down two would-be base stealers; Nolan Titchner (SAC,RBI), Joel Bertelsen (SAC,RBI),Brian Rush (SAC,RBI) and Lucas Haug (1B,2RS) all added to the scoring. Sikich also helped his own cause with a 2-run double. The club returns to action Friday with another West Division opponent, this time on the road vs. Richfield. | ||||||||||
