Game
Notes:
While Saturday's game with Longview Fibre was a 10-2 loss, the Athlete's Corner team had plenty of highlights. 1. Pitchers Eli Lovingfoss, Taylor Beck, Zack McDonald and Sean Atkins held the potent Fibre batters to only one earned run and only one solid hit. Fibre batters hit dribblers and Texas Leaguers. For the second game, these pitchers held RAL varsity and Olympic Drug BR player Dane Cheatley (substituting for absent Cody Erdman), hitless. 2. Infielders turned 3 double plays. 3. Michael Bartel made a spectacular catch of a looper that looked like a sure base hit with the bases loaded. As Michael raced in, he used his glove to shield the sun, and at the last moment grabbed the ball. 4. Michael's second spectacular play was a SportsCenter highlight. Off at the crack of the bat, Michael raced back and into deap right center to make a backhand stab of Sam Barbee's blast, saving a sure inside-the-park home run. Even the late afternoon sun didn't bother him as he made the leaping stab at full speed.. After the game, the Fibre coaches congratulated Michael on the major league play. 5. We scored both runs without a hit. Scotty Kirkpatrick walked, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on a clutch sacrifice fly by Austin Wegdahl. Later, Sean Atkins walked, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on an overthrow. 6. Taylor Beck picked RALong varsity star Dane Cheatley off first base. Next up is Castle Rock, Sunday at 4:30 at Roy Morse. The bats will come alive and the fielding goofs will disappear and we will be a very successful team. |
