Game
Notes:
Blackburn was coming off a very close win in their first game, and Everton was out to avenge their very close loss in their first game. Blackburn was playing with a full roster (14 players) for the first time this year. The teams started off sharing possession of the ball, but Everton somehow found an opening and scored a goal within the first five minutes of play. Blackburn battled back to attempt to even the score, and there was a collision in the box as several players tumbled to the ground. The referee called tripping on Blackburn, and he awarded a penalty kick to Everton. The opponent kicked a ball high in the net which was impossible to stop, and Blackburn soon found themselves down 2-0. The intensity of goalie Zachary Neff was evident as he held the opponent scoreless for the rest of the half. Zachary Hyman, still slightly fatigued from his first referee assignment shortly before the game, demonstarted one of the most powerful ! kicks of his career forcing the play into the opponent's territory. The powerful legs of Michael Hogendorn, Austin Jia, John Pineda, and Jonathan Wong started to turn the game around as the first half ended. It was evident that our two new players, Ethan Dunne and Billy Donahue, were going to be huge contributors to the team effort.
Following a very brief half time, it was clear that this team does not give up. Justin Leff, Benjamin Brown, Devin Wu, and Matthew Cha refused to show even a hint of slowing up, and the quartet ran the field effortlessly in pursuit of the ball. It was only a matter of time before Patrick Gascon put in his third goal of the season, and the score was 2-1 with four minutes left. Zachary Weissman played goalie for the first time this season, and it became evident that Everton would have a very difficult time scoring on him the rest of the way. Unfortunately, the seconds clicked off the clock, and the whistle was blown indicating that the game was over. Without a doubt, if there was a little more time, Blackburn would have tied the game. The first two games have clearly demonstarted that the league better fear the team named Blackburn!
