Game
Notes:
Led by the 2 hit shoutout pitching of Sean Atkins, Athletes Corner handed RSG its first loss of the Longview Babe Ruth season Wednesday night at Roy Morse Field. Taylor Beck hit an infield bunt single and a triple to the left center field fence, and Nam Le and Scotty Kirkpatrick had doubles. Branick Herold walked twice and also hit an infield single. Michael Bartel, Alex Lovingfoss, and Atkins all singled and walked. Lars Ertolacci walked and laid down a perfect bunt and beat it out, only to be called out for stepping on the foul line (???). Zac McDonald drew 2 walks. Eli Lovingfoss was robbed twice but in both instances had outstanding at bats that allowed runners to move up. AC runners stole 15 bases in 17 attempts. On defense, Austin Wagdahl called a great game, mixing up pitches that had RSG's top players totally psyched out, made a great play on a popup, and threw out both RSG runners that tried to to steal second. Branick Herold dove backwards to catch a popup that was blown over him by a gusting westerly wind, and Nam Le made a diving catch in left field. Scotty Kirkpatrick turned a bad-hop grounder into a force out by going to his knees to trap the ball and tossing it to Eli Lovingfoss at second. Sean Atkins faced only 17 batters in the 5 inning game that was called on the 10 run Mercy Rule. He had 9 strikeouts, one walk, no wild pitches and only two "scratch" hits, one a looper over 3rd baseman Branick Herold's head and the other, a flyball into shallow right "sun" field that RF Michael Bartel couldn't quite reach. |
