Game Notes: This game was extremely well played by both squads for the first three innings (which took a mere 36 minutes!). At the end of the third inning both teams had barely batted through their respective line-ups and the score was tied 2-2 as the starting pitching (and the defense) for both teams was outstanding. When balls were put in play the defenses rose to the occasion, as Jack R, Dylan and Sean all made plays to record outs. Sean Gant was our starter and pitched "lights out", giving up 1 hit and 2 runs while striking out 6 over 3 innings. The starter for the Rockhounds - Kyle Hackman - was equally impressive as he limited us to just 2 hits, 2 runs and 6 strike outs through 3 innings. Jack Ryan came in to pitch the top of the 4th and recorded 3 outs in six pitches. Will Eidson was the defensive star of the inning - he was responsible for all three outs via a ground ball and then a line-drive catch where he and Kai doubled off the runner on 3B. In the bottom of the 4th we busted loose for 8 runs. While we only had two hits in the inning we managed to get on base a total of 9 times as their pitchers struggled to find control. The Rockhounds battled back in the 5th, but we were able to get out of the inning giving up only four runs. James Ellis made a solid play getting a play in from left field and we were able to get the runner at 3B; a strike out and a ground ball back to the pitcher and the inning was over. Grayson led off the bottom of the 5th with a walk and the game was called due to time. Gold stars were awarded to Sean, Jack R and Will; the game ball was awarded to Grayson for two big hits.
