Game Notes: The Orange Hats had more than a chance to pull off the upset. The defending champion Monarchs were without their top three homerun threats. In the top of the second Josh Hoke, who was running for Marc Grenon, scored as Matt Sugarbaker grounded into a double play. After two innings the Bad Boys had a 1-0 lead and the champs on their heels. Then the wheels fell off. The Bad Boys imploded in the third. First a dropped foul pop up. Then an error on a grounder. Then a fly ball to center that resulted in an injury to Bad Boy centerfielder Travis Thomas, and was consequently played into a homerun. When the dust cleared from that fateful inning the Monarchs had a 5-1 lead. That lead would seem insurmountable versus Ruston starter Mike Gilner. In three starts this year, all versus the Bad Boys, Gilner is 3-0 with a 2.33 ERA. Bad Boy starting pitcher Mark Stewart(2-3) was ejected for hitting his third batter of the game. Stewart had struck out 5 in 3 1/3 prior to his ejection. The Bad Boys didn't muster much in terms of rallies, but two Bad Boys had multiple hits. Matt Aukland who continues his hot hitting was 2-4 with another SB. Brian Airey was 2-3. The Bad Boys face the Pirates tonight in a elimination game. |
