Game Notes: The Thunder (14-8-1 overall, 2-1 MSBR Tourney) extended its season with a thrilling comeback win over Tri-City Gold in the MSBR State Tournament. Tri-City jumped out to 6-1 lead through four innings and later led 9-4 heading into the bottom of the 7th. Its season down to three outs and the second half of the order coming to the plate, the Thunder responded in dramatic fashion. Jeremy "JJ McKay (21B,RBI)) led off with a single and John Grotkin (RBI) walked. After a strikeout, "Easy" Eddie Hagberg (RS) walked to load the bases for Mitch Haug, who drove in a run with a single. Nick "the Quick" Molitor (21B, RBI) singled to drive home another run, cutting the Tri-City lead to 9-7. Brad "B-Train' Landgrebe (31B,RBI) followed with another single to trim the deficit to one, setting the stage for Beau "Ichibeau" Jacobson. Jacobson lined the first pitch to right, scoring Haug and Molitor with the winning run. Starter Matt Neutz settled dwon after yielding five runs in the first to keep the club close. He went five innings, allowed three earned runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out five. In addition to his late-game heroics at the plate, Jacobson (2-1) came on in relief in the sixth and picked up the win. Jake Kruegel added two hits and an RBI. With the victory, the Thunder eliminated Tri-City and advanced to play Minnetonka in a second elimination game Sunday, with the winner moving on to face Coon Rapids for the right to play Apple Valley for the State Championship.
