Final
Toronto FC --2
Revolution --1
Game Notes: This game was much anticipated by the players as it had been rained out 2x during the season. The team faced the Revolution led by a strong player, Cooper. The team had scrimmaged the Revolution earlier in the season so they felt confident going into the battle. The game started at 9AM which always seems to be the best playing time for Toronto. The coaches did move our reliable bench to the other side in the hope that the net would be more favorable.

In the 1st period, Ethan, Josh, Matt M., and Matt L. played offense and for the most part controlled the game. The Revolution did get a few shots on goal but were turned away by the strong goaltending of Dan! On defense, Jake and Jacob along with Evan played great stopping the Revolution’s main weapon, Cooper.

In the 2nd period, Alec seemed to wake up the team by almost scoring a goal as he took his strongest kick of the season and the Revolution was lucky to stop it. Richi in goal once again played flawlessly and the defensive line of Matt L., Dan and Evan stopped all shots. On offense, Drew, Jake and Jacob played very well and had several shots blocked by the opposing goalie.

In the 3rd period, Matt M. played great in goal as the Revolution controlled the ball most of the period. Matt M. made save after save to preserve the shutout. He was helped out by the defense of Richi, Ethan and Josh. On offense, Matt L., Dan and Jake and Evan tried their best to score but were turned away.

At the half, the game remained 0-0. Toronto FC had now not scored in 1 ½ games. However, Alec’s shot on goal in the 2nd period, had woken up the rest of the players and they came out on a mission as Jake and I had to leave the game early. Coaches Jeff, Jim and Stew took over and told me the rest as described below.

In the 4th period, Toronto FC gave up a goal for the first time in 5 games on a great kick by Cooper from the Revolution. Evan tried his best to stop the shot but it slipped in. In fact, the coaches doubt that they would have been able to stop the shot. The team immediately regrouped and charged down the field as Ethan took a kick from Drew and scored the team’s first goal of the game to tie the score. However, Ethan was not done that period as he took another pass from Alec and marched down the field to make the score 2-1. This was Drew’s first assist of the season and the coaches are all proud of him since without this assist, Ethan does not score. Alec also netted his 2nd assist of the season as he seemed to come to play this game with passion and aggressiveness. Also, controlling the offense during this period was Josh and Matt M. and the defense was anchored by Richi, Matt L. and Jacob.

The remaining periods were controlled by Toronto as Ethan and Evan played great in goal. In fact, Evan played in goal 2x and the team owes him a great deal of gratitude for stepping in as Jake left early along with Matt L. Richi also played great defense as seen by the coaches.

The team ended up winning 2-1. More impressive is how strong this team plays defense. In the 7 games played by Toronto only 2 goals have been given up which is amazing for any grade but especially 1st grade where every player rotates around every 7 minutes.

MVP Offense: Ethan Landau- Ethan scored 2 goals to lead his team to another victory. He played an unselfish game and helped out on offense when he was not able to get around an opposing player. Congrats!

MVP Defense: Richi Rathod- Richi once again used his speed down the field and put himself in front of a very strong player to stop multiple shots on goal. Richi also played goalie in the 2nd period and did not give up any goals. Congrats!

Player of the game: Alec Sherr- Alec seemed to have woken up the players from game 1 on Saturday as he took control of the offense in the 2nd period and almost scored. That play alone gave the players and the coaches a wakeup call that the team cannot win a game solely on playing defense. By the 4th period, the team took Alec’s lead and scored 2 goals to win the game. Nice job Alec!
