Game Notes: What was expected to be another great battle between two perrenial South Division rivals lived up to the hype with the Blue Jays losing to the Irish by one run for the third time this season. This game ended up being a pitching duel with Whitey going all nine for the Jays and having a very strong outing. Unfortunately for Whitey, the Irish had their ace on the mound and the Blue Jays bats were kept in check for most of the evening.

3rd Inning - Blue Jays strike first putting up two runs. Nixy was hit by a pitch with one out followed by a two out double by Johnson to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Maynard came up with a clutch 2 out single to drive in the first two runs of the game and Plato had the early 2-0 lead.

The Irish came right back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning on a hit batter folowed by two singles.

4th Inning - Plato mounted their only other real threat of the game when Boomer and Slater got 2 out singles to put a runner in scoring position for Tony. Tony was unable to come up with the big hit and the threat was over. That was the last time the Blue Jays would have a runner in scoring position for the remainder of the evening.

5th Inning - Irish tie up the game on a one out walk, followed by a double. An intentional walk loaded the bases with one out and the tying run would score on a fielder's choice to second. That left runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs and things got a little interesting. With Whitey in the wind-up, the runner from third attempted to steal home but was tagged out by Slater on a pitch that could have been called a balk. However, it wasn't and the Blue Jays were out of the jam with the score tied 2-2.

7th Inning - The Irish would get what turned out to be the winning run across the plate after a lead-off walk and two singles loaded the bases with nobody out. A sac fly scored the go ahead run, even though there was some controversy over whether or not the runner left third early. With runners stil on 2nd and 3rd with one out, Whitey came up with a big strike out and a pop up to get out of the inning without any more damage.

That was it for the scoring in this one and the Blue Jays came out on the losing end after having an early lead.

Offensively, Johnson, Maynard, Boomer, and Slater all had one hit for the Blue Jays.
