AUSTIN, Texas- Jumping out to a 41-17 lead at halftime, No. 3 state-ranked Pflugerville kept its unbeaten streak alive as it rolled to a 76-30 win over Westlake High School at Westlake Friday evening in a non-district contest. The Panthers, now 20-0, had four players in double-digit scoring. Junior guard Taylor Ross (18 points), senior forward Itiana Taylor (14 points) and senior guard Jasmyn Booker (14) led the way while junior forward Diana Omozee added a double-double by notching 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. The Panthers were paced by a double-double from junior post Nneka Enemkpali (pictured) who collected 17 points and a season-high 16 rebounds, and junior guard Curtiesha Woods who also netted 17 points, including a seven-for-nine effort from the foul line.

PFLUGERVILLE, TEXAS - The state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers will begin the 2010 State 5A playoffs with a first round (Bi-District) game against the San Antonio Reagan Rattlers on Tuesday, February 16. The game will take place at 8 p.m. at Lockhart High School in Lockhart, Texas. This game will follow the Pflugerville Connally/San Antonio MacArthur 6 p.m. game at that site. PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- Behind a game-high 19 points from senior forward Christie Mooney and a 15-point, game-high 15-rebound effort by junior post Nneka Enemkpali (pictured), the state-ranked Pflugerville girls varsity basketball squad earned its fourth consecutive District title and the 21st in program history Tuesday with a 75-50 victory over cross-town opponent Pflugerville Connally in a "Pink Zone Night" contest. It was the regular season finale for both squads in a game played in front of a spirited, Panther Gym-filled crowd, many dressed in pink to lend support on Pink Zone Night as the two teams supported the efforts of the nation-wide Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone program to support the fight against cancer.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- Led by five in double-figure scoring, including game-highs of 18 points and nine rebounds from junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (pictured) and 16 points from junior post Nneka Enemkpali, the state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers recorded a 79-50 victory over District opponent Akins Tuesday at Panther Gym. The victory pushes the Panthers to 25-5 overall as Pflugerville remains the District 25-5A leader at 11-1. The win also was the 500th career victory for head coach Nancy Walling. Walling, whose all-time high school head coaching record is now 500-237 (.679). Walling, third in voting last year for 2009 WBCA National Coach of the Year honors and who coached in the WBCA/Nike High School All-America Game at the Women's Final Four in St. Louis, is in her 21st year as Panther head coach and in her 23rd year overall.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- The state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers pulled away with a 48-18 scoring surge in the second and third quarters en route to a 77-48 victory over Anderson in District 25-5A Tuesday night at the Panther Gym. The Panthers enjoyed their best shooting night of the season, hitting 57.1 percent of their shots by connecting on 28 of 49 attempted field goals. In this week's state 5A polls, Pflugerville is ranked No. 9 (Texas Girls Coaches Association) and No. 15 (TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine).

AUSTIN, Texas -- Despite a dramatic comeback with a three-pointer to send the game into overtime, the state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers could not sustain the momentum in the extra four-minute period and dropped their first District game of the year, 56-50, to Westlake at Westlake HS Friday night.  P'ville is now 22-5 overall. The loss snaps the Panthers' six-game win streak and puts Pflugerville in a tie atop the District standings (at 8-1) with Pflugerville Connally. Connally is now 16-7 overall and suffered its first District loss (6-1), dropping out of a tie for first with the Panthers.  The balanced Pflugerville attack saw four players in double-figure scoring.

MANSFIELD, Texas -- The Pflugerville girls varsity went 1-1 Monday to open play at the 2009 Meredith Hatch Mansfield Rotary Invitational. In early morning action, the No. 7 state-ranked Panthers were upset by Grapevine, 77-68, in overtime, before rebounding with a 60-41 victory over McKinney Boyd in early evening play. The Panthers are now 15-3 and were led in the win over Boyd by senior forward Christie Mooney's 24 points, eight rebounds and game-high tying eight steals. Pflugeville now faces Mansfield Legacy in third-round (consolation bracket play) Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 1:15 p.m. at Legacy HS.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- Senior forward Christie Mooney (pictured) netted a game-high 19 points and junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi added 14 points, eight rebounds and a game-high tying six steals, to lead state-ranked Pflugerville to a 69-53 win over Westlake Friday in District 25-5A action. The win, PHS's seventh in a row, moves the Panthers to 14-2 overall and to 2-0 in the District. Joining them in double-figure scoring was sophomore forward Itiana Taylor (11 points) who also reached a double-double (double-figure scoring and rebounding) with 10 rebounds. She also had six steals. Led by Ebomwonyi and Taylor, the Panthers had 20 steals and pressured Westlake into 22 turnovers.

Posted Dec 15/09 - Panthers volunteer time at Blue Santa program; Community service is a key element of the PHS girls basketball program

Players and coaches of the Pflugerville Panthers Girls Basketball program spent their time Monday evening (Dec. 14) volunteering for Pflugerville's Blue Santa program where they helped sort donated toys and gifts and wrap presents. The Police Department-sponsored Blue Santa program aims at providing toys and Christmas dinners for the less fortunate families and children in the local area. This PHS girls basketball tradition with Blue Santa began six years ago, and each year the players and coaches look forward to giving back to their community. Thanks to Cathy Booker, mother of current sophomore guard Jasmyn Booker, who got the girls basketball teams involved in Blue Santa six years ago when her older daughter Kayla Sanders was a freshman on the PHS squad. Special thanks also go out to Pflugerville police officers Sgt. Jason Smith and Blue Santa Coordinator Cpl. Mike Clowdus, for their organization, guidance and support. (In the photo above, Cpl. BUDA, Texas-- Behind Tournament MVP junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (pictured, at left), the Pflugerville Panthers stopped Hendrickson, 44-36 Saturday afternoon to win their third consecutive Hays Rebel Classic championship.  The Panthers are ranked ninth in the TABC 5A poll this week, while Hendrickson, also in the Pflugerville ISD, is 14th in the TABC 4A rankings. The Panthers are now 13-2 overall with a six-game win streak, and went 4-0 in the tourney. In the four games, Ebomwonyi collected 60 points and 46 rebounds for tourney averages of 15.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. This included nine points and game-highs of 11 rebounds and six steals in the title game win over Hendrickson.

BUDA, Texas- The No. 9 state-ranked Pflugerville varsity picked up two wins in Thursday's pool play round at the Hays Rebel Classic, cruising to a 66-36 victory over Vista Ridge in the afternoon before besting Weatherford 81-60 in a night game. The wins move the Panthers to 11-2 and advance Pflugerville into the Friday, Dec. 11 1st-place championship bracket. The Panthers play at 1:30 p.m. (in the Red Gym at Hays HS) against an opponent TBA, as pool play continued late Thursday night. A win Friday sends the two-time defending champion Panthers into the title game at noon on Saturday, Dec. 12. Thursday's top performances were turned in by junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi who collected a double-double against Vista Ridge (14 points, 12 rebounds) before posting a game-high 23 points with nine boards in the win over Weatherford, and senior forward Christie Mooney who notched 16 points and nine rebounds against Vista Ridge and added 12 points versus Weatherford.

PHS head coach Nancy Walling excelled in multi-sports in high school and college. An All-State basketball player at powerhouse Canyon High School who played at The University of Texas for Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt, Walling has added a Hall of Fame mention to her list of accolades as well. On Dec 29, she will be inducted into the National Flag Football Hall of Fame (located in New Orleans). She quarterbacked the 1982-83 University of Texas team to the national championship in the Superdome where she earned MVP honors and received First Team All-America honors for a third year!  PFLUGERVILLE, Texas- A big fourth quarter rally by the Pflugerville varsity fell short Tuesday as the Panthers were edged by Bryan High School, 66-63, in a battle between two of the state's top-ranked 5A programs. There were six lead changes and one tie in the final 3:10 of the contest, and two missed layups by the Panthers in the final 18 seconds spelled the difference.

Nov. 21, 2009:      Austin, Texas -- Behind Tournament MVP Christie Mooney (14 points) and All-Tournament performer Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (14 points, 7 rebounds), the undefeated Pflugerville varsity stopped Arlington Martin, 54-46 Saturday night to win the 2009 Greater Austin Tournament championship. The win moves Pflugerville to 7-0 on the year after going 4-0 in the three-day, 20-team varsity tournament. The Pflugerville JV and freshman teams also won their respective Tournament titles, each defeating (Leander) Rouse in the title game. The JV won by a 63-19 margin while the Panther freshmen claimed their championship with an easy 47-12 victory. AUSTIN, Texas--   The starting forward duo of Christie Mooney and Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (pictured) combined for 39 points, with Mooney collecting a game-high 20 and Ebomyoni adding 19 and pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds, to lift state-ranked Pflugerville to a 69-34 victory over Willis Friday afternoon in the Greater Austin Tournament. The Panthers, 5-0 overall, move to 3-0 in tourney action and advance to Saturday's semifinal matchup at 10 a.m. against fellow 5A Region 4 opponent San Antonio Highlands. That semifinal game takes place at McNeil HS, host of the tourney. A win by Pflugerville will put the Panthers into the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday at McNeil. Arlington-Martin has already advanced to that 5 p.m. final and awaits the Pflugerville-SA Highlands winner.

PFLUGERVILLE-- After jumping out to leads of 16-3 after the first period and 23-4 after the second quarter, the state-ranked Pflugerville girls varsity posted a 68-18 win over Crockett Thursday afternoon in the Panthers' first game of the three-day, 20-team Greater Austin Tournament. The game took place at PHS's Panther Gym and was the first home game of the year for the Panthers, now 4-0. Leading the balanced PHS attack were sophomore forward Itiana Taylor (pictured) with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds and junior post DyMesheon (Dee) Hyder (10 points, eight rebounds).
