Posted Jan 7/11 - Panthers defeat McNeill, 53-31, behind another double-double from senior Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (11 points, 16 rebounds)
AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi collected 11 points and a game-high and season-high 16 rebounds, while senior forward Shoneice Yett came off the bench to add a season-high 10 points and eight boards, lifting state-ranked Pflugerville to a 53-31 district win over McNeill High School at McNeill.

Pflugerville, ranked No. 10 in the Texas Basketball Coaches Association (TABC)/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine 5A rankings, improves to 20-4 overall and moves to 4-0 in District 16-5A. The Mavericks are 15-8 overall and 1-3 in the district.

It was the sixth double-double (double figure scoring and rebounding totals) in the last seven games by Ebomwonyi, a Tulane University signee.

Behind Ebomwonyi and Yett, the Panthers held a commanding edge on the boards, out-rebounding the Mavericks by a 45-21.

After leading 13-8 after the first quarter, Pflugerville clamped down on defense and allowed just three points in the second period to take a 25-11 lead into halftime. The Panthers went on 10-0 run to start the second period, and a Yett 3-pointer pushed the lead into double-digits, 18-8, with 4:12 to go. An Ebomwonyi putback and a jumper by senior post Shari Stewart extended the lead to 15 (23-8), with 2:40 to go in the first half.

The one-two punch of Ebomwonyi and Yett provided the cushion for the Panthers in the first half. Ebomwonyi accounted for five points and nine of her 16 rebounds in the first half, while Yett had six points and four rebounds.

Pflugerville led 39-22 after three periods.

Sophomore point guard Taliyah Brooks added eight points for Pflugerville, while junior forward Itiana Taylor chipped in with six points and two blocks.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 11 when they square off against another state-ranked team, District opponent Georgetown in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Pflugerville. It will be a contest pitting two of the state's top 10 teams, as Georgetown stood second in the TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine poll this week.
