Posted Dec 28/11 - Pflugerville advances to Mansfield Rotary Invitational semifinals with 51-45 victory over Cedar Hill; Panthers face Amarillo Wednesday night in semis
MANSFIELD, TEXAS-- Pflugerville, ranked No. 3 in the TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine 5A state poll, remained undefeated and moved into the Mansfield Rotary Invitational Tournament semifinals by upending No. 18 Cedar Hill 51-45 Wednesday afternoon behind a standout performance from senior forward Itiana Taylor. Taylor notched team-highs of 19 points, 12 rebounds and six steals. The Panthers, now 24-0, face No. 24 Amarillo High (17-2) in Wednesday evening semifinal action at 8:15 p.m. at Legacy High School. The three-day, 32-team tourney is in its second day and is being played at the four Mansfield-area high schools. See the Mansfield Rotary Invitational website.

Joining Taylor in double-figure scoring was junior forward Diana Omozee who finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Brenisha Payne added nine points.

Pflugerville is 3-0 at the Rotary Invitational. The closely-contested game saw the Panthers lead 27-22 at intermission and by seven (38-31) after three periods. Cedar Hill drops to 15-4.

Amarillo advanced to the tourney's semifinals with a 46-42 quarterfinal win over Cabot HS from Cabot, Arkansas. The other two teams advancing to Wednesday night's semifinals are Mansfield Timberview and Canyon who meet at 6:30 p.m. at Legacy HS. Timberview is ranked No. 12 i the most recent TABC 5A rankings, while Canyon sits in the No. 3 spot in the state 4A poll.

On Thursday, Dec. 29 at Legacy HS, the third-place game is set for 5:15 p.m. to be followed by the 7 p.m. championship game.
