Posted Apr 10/13 - Bellevue recap

After a perfect opening weekend, the weather caught up with the Douglas College Royals baseball team.  Games were rescheduled 3 times due to rain, but when the weather finally cooperated, the Royals were able to take the field down in Bellevue on Monday.

Game 1 was a pitching duel in its finest form.  The Royals sent out sophomore pitcher Josh Larsen after his one hit performance against Olympic last weekend and did much of the same against the Bulldogs.  Larsen was the tough luck loser after scattering 4 hits while striking out 3 in his complete game 1-0 loss.  Matt Ney had a 2 hits, including a double and Jordan Kornberger had the only other hit for the Royals.

In game 2 the Royals outhit the Bulldogs, but were not able to top them on the scoreboard, losing another 1 run ballgame 3-2.  Freshman pitcher Quinn Allen gave up 1 run in each of the first 3 innings, but settled down and shut the Bulldog offense after that.  Brandon Bufton and Carter Sherban both had RBI's offensively for the Royals.

On Tuesday, the Royals came home to Whalley where they were able to earn a split for the day.

Game 3 was another pitcher’s duel this time between 2 left handed pitchers, Cory Duggan for the Royals, and Jake Reppert for the Bulldogs.  Duggan, earned a no decision in the game going 6 innings scattering 6 hits and striking out 11 Bulldog hitters, adding to his team leading strikeout total.  With the score tied after 6 innings, Dylan Remenyk provided relief pitching for Douglas College, giving up 1 hit and striking out 1.  In the bottom of the 7th, leadoff hitter Jackson Temple got on with a base hit.  After a wild pitch moved Temple to second base, Shane Wlodarczak moved Temple to third with a groundball to second base, etting up an exciting end to the game.  Tanner Robertson executed a squeeze bunt to perfection bringing home Temple and giving the Royals the 3-2 victory.

With the rain steadily coming down for game 4, the Royals Caleb Lefebvre struggled to find the strike zone consistently walking 6 while giving up 5 hits.  The Royals were only able to muster up 3 hits, coming from Brandon Bufton, Carter Sherban, and Tanner Robertson.  The final score ended up 13-2 in favour of the Bulldogs.

The Royals now sit in 3rd place in the NWAACC North division with a 5-3 record, and an overall record of 8-8.  The Royals have a bye this weekend, but continue conference play next weekend with a double header at home April 20 against Shoreline (0-4), starting at 1:00 pm.  They then travel down to Shoreline for a double header on April 21.
