Posted Dec 23/13 - Cards Slay the Dragons

The Taylor County Cardinals started their Christmas break in excellent fashion, triumphing over the Green County Dragons, 93-67. The Cards started slowly, but turned up the heat and stretched the game out in the third quarter. Playing without freshman David Sloan who was out due to an ankle sprain, the Cardinals compensated by having five-double digit scorers and shooting 75.6% on a season-high 45 free throw attempts as a team. Junior Austin Webster played a great game, scoring a season-high 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Senior Caleb Wigginton had his best long-range shooting performance, knocking down 3 of 6 from outside and totalling 21 points, leading the Cards in scoring. Sophomore Quentin Goodin flirted with a triple-double, as the guard added 19 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds with complete control of the backcourt with Sloan out. Sophomore Devin Rafferty put in a season-high 16 points and brought down 8 rebounds while freshman Ezra Oliver scored 15 points and robbed the ball 4 times. The team made it to the free throw line an outstanding 45 times, converting 34 of the attempts in one of their best efforts from the charity stripe all season. The Cards advance to 5-1 on the season and begin Christmas tournament play Saturday in the North Laurel Legacy Nissan Tournament.
