Posted Jan 25/14 - Cards Have Fantastic Homecoming

The Cardinals owned Homecoming night, defeating district rival Marion County impressively, 96-79. Jumping out from the start, the Cardinals were able to push to a large lead and never trailed again in the game. The Cards shot lights out from the field and free-throw line, finishing 55% and 76%, respectively, as a team. Senior Card Brady Turpin was named 2014 Basketball Homecoming King, but it was last year's king that dominated. Senior Caleb Wigginton finished his final Homecoming game with 35 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 73% from the field. Sophomore Quentin Goodin again almost earned a triple-double, scoring 19 points, assisting on 9 baskets and grabbing 7 rebounds. Freshman Ezra Oliver added a career-high 19 points, with 13 coming in the first quarter. Junior Austin Webster, 1st runner-up for Homecoming King, contributed 9 points, as did freshman David Sloan. Sophomore Devin Rafferty chipped in 5 points and 6 rebounds and a whole lot of effort in the victory. The second half was significantly more competitive, but Coach Gatewood's team was able to maintain their lead and finish the game strong. The Cards are now by themselves at the top of the district table with 4 wins and 0 defeats (15-4 season) and will face off against Adair County Tuesday night at home.
