Posted Feb 10/14 - Cards Edge the Knights to Complete Perfect District Play

Going undefeated in the 20th district is something that rarely happens, which speaks volumes to the quality of basketball played in our area. The 2013-14 Taylor County Cardinals, however, were able to do just that. The Cards did not let the distinction of district perfection phase them, as they traveled to the Roby Dome and left with an important victory. The game was back and forth throughout and the Cardinals needed a dominant fourth-quarter to pullout the 93-86 win. It seemed as if all shots fell for both teams, but especially the Cardinals, who shot 72% from the field and 50% from three. The young Cardinal backcourt dominated the game, combining for 71 of the total 93 points. Sophomore Quentin Goodin totalled 31 points and 9 rebounds to go along with 4 steals and 3 assists. Freshman David Sloan added 20 points and 5 assists and freshman Ezra Oliver put in 20 points and 4 assists. The Cardinals needed maximum effort as Marion County put up a tremendous fight on their Homecoming Night, but the Cards ended the night victorious. With the win, the Cards boast a 6-0 district record (securing the number 1 seed for the district tournament) and 18-5 record overall.
