After two cancelled games agaisnt Fort Knox and Cumberland County were unable to be rescheduled, Coach Richard Gatewood made a rather bold move. He decided to schedule Hopkinsville, a team three hours away and with no losses against teams from Kentucky. The move was bold, but would pay dividends for the young Cardinals as they push towards the home stretch. Most expected the Cards to be blown out and thought that they were proven correct after seeing the scoreline, 80-62, but that was hardly the case. The Cardinal squad hustled and performed well, but were simply outmatched in speed and athleticism. Senior Caleb Wigginton totalled 25 points and 12 rebounds and sophomore Quentin Goodin tallied 21 points and 9 rebounds. Junior Austin Webster added 9 points and 9 rebounds while freshman David Sloan chipped in the remaining 7 of the Cards' 62 points. The Cardinals battled on the boards, pulling down 35 rebounds, but turnovers eventually doomed them as the team accumulated 17 total. Regardless, the matchup was a fantastic learning experience for the Cardinals and will better prepare them as they make runs at the District Championship and Region Championship. The Cards finish the regular season 23-6 and will play Campbellsville at 7:00 in Marion County in the first round of district on Wednesday, February 26th.
