Posted Feb 28/14 - Cards Handle Eagles, Advance to District Championship

The postseason is always a time of uncertainty. Never are the outcomes definite and a game, a season, and a career can be over in the blink of an eye. The 20th District Tournament always guarentees great basketball games from the district's four teams. The Cardinals triumphed over the Eagles, 82-52, but the scoreline is not indicative of the scrappiness seen throughout the game. Both teams hustled and also made silly mistakes in the heat of the moment, proving the desire of both teams to continue their seasons. Double technicals were accessed early in the first quarter, an intentional foul was called on a Campbellsville player, and Coach Richard Gatewood was slapped with a technical for jawing at a referee. There is nothing like the postseason. In the end, Taylor County rolled easily to a win, advancing to the 20th District Championship game and securing a spot in the 5th Region Tournament. Sophomore Quentin Goodin tallied 27 points, going 13 of 16 from the free throw line, grabbed 6 rebounds, and picked up 4 steals. Senior Caleb Wigginton dropped in 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals and freshman David Sloan finished with 17 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Junior Austin Webster chipped in  8 points and 10 rebounds. The Cardinals will face off against Adair County in a rematch of last year's championship on Saturday night at 7:00 EST in Marion County's Roby Dome as they look to repeat as District Champions.
