ESSEX FALL TUNE UP TOURNAMENT – 2 WINS 2 LOSSES
The Locos passed their first big test of the season and came away with a medal in the U11 Boys top bracket at the EFT this past weekend.
In their first performances on a large sided field, the boys handled themselves admirably, and the new additions to the team meshed seamlessly with the old guard to produce some sparkling football.
The 2-1 scoreline in game 1 flattered Glen Rock, who were under pressure for most of the game but the Locos poor finishing combined with a few dodgy refereeing calls gave the Rocks the victory.
The Locos stepped it up in game 2 with a well deserved and comfortable 2-0 win, but the big positive taken from the weekend came in game 3 vs NJSA, one of the top NJ Academy teams. The Locos matched them for 35 minutes, and only a couple of sloppy mistakes allowed NJSA to take over and win 3-1.
Overall, an outstanding start to U11 full sided soccer for the boys, and some positive indications for the season ahead which starts in earnest on Sunday at home to Cranford. |
A WORD FROM ED…
Focus is the key to good defense. Be aware of the players around you, and use communication to ensure that all opposing players are picked up when they are on attack.
When you are picking up a player, you should be ‘Goal side’ - always keep your body positioned between the player and your goal.
If you are marking a speedy player, don’t get too close – give yourself space to challenge them. |
