Posted Nov 12/10 - Pflugerville posts 63-22 win over Killeen Shoemaker behind balanced scoring effort

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- Jumping out to a 31-10 lead at intermission, the state-ranked Pflugerville girls varsity posted a 63-22 win over Killeen Shoemaker Friday night at Panther Gym behind a balanced scoring attack.

The Panthers are now 1-1, while Killeen also is 1-1. The balanced scoring totals saw senior post Nneka Enemkpali netting a game-high tying 14 points, while junior forward Itiana Taylor, playing her first game of the season, netted 10 points and a game-high four steals. Contributing nine points each were sophomore point guard Taliyah Brooks and junior guard Ari Booth, while senior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi had eight points and six rebounds.

Enemkpali and senior post Shari Stewart each pulled down eight rebounds.

Pflugerville took a 31-10 lead into halftime. Ebomwonyi and Booth each had seven points to lead the first-half scoring attack, and the Panthers held a 29-13 edge in rebounding in the first 16 minutes.

Midway through the third quarter, Pflugerville had opened up a 43-13 edge.

Pflugerville ended the game with a commanding edge in rebounding, pulling down 52 boards to Shoemaker's 25. Pflugerville forced Shoemaker to commit 20 turnovers, as the Panthers finished with 15 steals.

Pflugerville hosts its third consecutive game on Tuesday, Nov. 16 when cross-town opponent Hendrickson High School comes to the Panther Gym for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Pflugerville junior varsity and freshman Gold (A) teams also defeated their Killeen Shoemaker opponents, and both Panther squads are now 2-0.

The JV cruised to a 70-9 win behind four double-figure scorers: Jonelle Smith (16 points), Diana Omozee (12 points), Taylor Ross (10) and Brenisha Payne (10).

The freshman Gold squad won 74-26 behind post Makyndra Simmons who registered 18 points and three blocks, and forward Ariana Marks (12 points, four assists).

Note: the Pflugerville freshman Blue (B team) squad has yet to play a contest. They will begin their season at the Greater Austin Area Tournament next week.
