Posted Dec 7/10 - Palmer's shot lifts Cougars, stuns Rams

Katy, TX----Megan Palmer drove in for a game winning layup with five seconds remaining to erase a furious Mayde Creek rally and lift Cinco Ranch to a thrilling 60-59 win over the Rams on Tuesday night at CRHS.  Mayde Creek's Maya Adighibe hit a half court shot just after the buzzer that would have given the Rams the win in each team's district opener.

The Rams had a 12-9 lead after one quarter behind Jazzmin Parker's ten points.  Parker would finish the night with a game high 31 points, including 11 in the final quarter.  Mayde Creek took a 22-12 lead midway through the 2nd quarter behind six straight points from Parker, but the Lady Cougars were able to cut the deficit to just five points at the half, 22-17.

Cinco came out on fire in the third quarter, scoring a season high 31 points, with 23 of them coming inside behind the duo of Palmer and Nwanguma.  Palmer scored 11 points in the period, while Nwanguma had twelve.  That pushed the Cinco lead to 48-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Mayde Creek responded by scoring 10 straight points to start the fourth and continued to slice into the Cougar lead.  Cinco went on a spurt to up their lead to 58-48, but the Rams were still not done.  Mayde Creek went on an 11-0 run to put the Cougars on the ropes.  The Rams Sheila Onyekwere scored 8 points in the final frame to go along with Parker's dominance.  The Rams completed the rally with a steal and bucket by Parker to go up 59-58 with 11 seconds left in the game.  That set the stage for the Palmer heroics and the almost good half court heave by the Rams.

Cinco will travel to Bellaire on Friday night for a non-district tilt.  Game time is at 7:00.
