Posted Dec 28/10 - Cougars take two on opening day of McDonald's Tourney

Bryan, TX----Cinco Ranch won its first two games of the McDonald's All-Star Invitational in Bryan/College Station on Tuesday, beating Killeen Shoemaker and Houston Madison in impressive fashion.  The Cougars advance to the 3rd round, where they will play Beaumont Central on Wednesday morning at 10:30.  If Cinco prevails, they will play host Bryan at 4:30pm on Wednesday in the semifinals.  A loss would drop the Cougars to a consolation game at 3:00pm against a team to be determined.  Below is a recap of Tuesday's action:

1st Round---Cinco Ranch 55 Killeen Shoemaker 36
The Cougars came out sharp against Shoemaker, shooting 50% in both halves.  Shoemaker jumped out to a 2-0 lead and did not score again until the 7:30 mark of the 2nd quarter as Cinco went on a 21-0 run in that time frame.  The Cougars led 37-12 at the half and coasted the rest of the way.  Ashleigh Nwanguma scored 13 points and had 9 rebounds.  Shayne Ortiz played a stellar game with 6 assists and 7 steals, while having no turnovers.  Angie Moore also pulled down 10 rebounds for the victors.

2nd Round----Cinco Ranch 55 Houston Madison 32
The Cougars continued their hot shooting in a blowout win over Madison.  Cinco shot 60% in the first half and 50% for the game.  Megan Palmer had 18 points, Ashleigh Nwanguma added 10, and Shayne Ortiz had her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.  Cinco had a season high 20 assists on the night to wear down the Marlins.  Peyton Crump added 5 helpers as the Cougars evened their record on the season to 11-11.
