After raining out the first day of conference at home, the
Douglas College Men’s baseball team started their 2011 Conference schedule with
a double header today at Olympic College in Bremerton, WA.
Game One took just 1 hour and 35 minutes as Sean Callegari
went all seven innings in a 1-0 Douglas win. Pitching and defense was the call
of the game as the Royals pushed across their only run in the 4thinning. Chandler McLaren doubled in KP Hlatky after he started the 4thinning with a double down the left field line and stealing 2nd and
3rd base. Callegari gave up only four hits while striking out 3 and the Royals
managed to cut down potential big innings by getting lead runners on several
Ranger bunt plays and KP Hlatky making a diving catch in the outfield to save
several runs.
In Game Two, the offense came alive with 11 hits and 7 runs.
The Royals scored 5 of those runs in the 6, 7, 8 and 9th innings.
Clayton Franco was effective on the mound for DC as he yielded only 3 runs over
8 innings of work and managed to keep the OC Rangers offense off balance all
game. Shayne Kelly and Sheldon Sinnott both had three hits and Kelly, McLaren
and Brad Clarke had 2 RBI’s a piece. Overall,
we executed well in both the games today. The wins put Douglas at 2-0 in
conference play and 4-4 on the season overall.
With the Saturday rainout, Douglas will make up the 2 games
against the OC Rangers, 1:00pm Monday, April 4th at Whalley Stadium.
Chris Foreman will be the Game One starter for the Royals. |
