This event is our most important source of funds for field maintenance and reducing the cost of playing baseball for our players and their families.

Once again, for 2011, the Elmwood Giants Baseball Club is offering “Cash Calendars” for sale.

Every day in November we will award a cash prize based on the results of weekly draws. Our Grand Prize, to be drawn on the 30th, is $1000. In total, there will be over $3000 in prizes and all winning tickets are returned to the drum and are eligible for all remaining prizes!

The tickets cost $10 and come with additional benefits. As has been the case for the past few years, DOMINO’S PIZZA is sponsoring this event. Each ticket comes with a set of coupons worth more than the purchase price!

The Club has been offering sports opportunities to the community for more than 100 years. During that time, it has been tremendously successful, with a long list of city, provincial, western and national titles to its credit at every level from Pee-Wee to Senior. The teams have benefited from the maintenance of Giants Field, a core asset and endeavours which receive no regular government funding.

The dedication of our Board of Directors to the fund-raising and field maintenance activities are the key to our success.

The Club currently operates a team in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League (AAA), a “brand new this year” entry in the Winnipeg Junior Baseball League (AA) and two teams in the Winnipeg Senior Baseball League. Every year, we plan for the teams to participate in championships beyond the leagues in which they play.

The Junior AAA Giants were MJBL Pennant Winners and Western Canada Baseball Association Junior AAA Champions. They also contributed several players, a coach and the Chef de Mission to the roster of the team that won the Baseball Canada Junior AAA Championship in Trois-Rivières, QC last August.

The Senior Giants won the Manitoba Senior AA All-Stars Championship and were Silver Medalists in the Western Canada Baseball Association Senior Championship held in Muenster. SK. They were also the WSBL Pennant Winners and finalists in the WSBL Championship. The Kildonan Mudcats were semi-finalists in the WSBL Championship.

Building on the success of the Giants baseball program and the popularity of the game in the area, the Club established a new Junior team at the AA level this year. It should serve as a developmental opportunity for young players looking to take their skills to the next level and gain experience against stronger opposition than may be available to them otherwise.

All of this success is based on a winning on-field program of teaching and supporting the players, showing them how to be the best athletes and people possible. This is made possible through off-field activities such as this one!
