8/4/12 Miami Lakes, FL--In the first round of the WBCBL's National Tournament, the Fort Lauderdale Lions took on fellow conference mate, FL Knighthawks. Both teams kicked off the tournament in early fashion style having played the tourney's first game at 8am Saturday morning. "There is no time for excuses, we have to play this game as if it were 5 o'clock in the evening," said head coach Albert Conner of the Lions.
The game remained close from start to finish. The Lions largest lead was 10, but the Knighthawks continued to climb their way back each time the Lions created some breathing room. The Lions held on 81-74 to advance to the second round of the tournament to take on #4 Fayetteville Lady Rush.
The Lions were led by Melissa Caplan and Lashonda Gaines each scoring 21 points and Ericka Haney and Dawna Wright both chipped in 15 points.
