Posted Dec 28/09 - Pflugerville goes 1-1 in first day of Mansfield Rotary Invitational play; to face Mansfield Legacy Tuesday in consolation third round action
MANSFIELD, Texas -- The Pflugerville girls varsity went 1-1 Monday to open play at the 2009 Meredith Hatch Mansfield Rotary Invitational. In early morning action, the No. 7 state-ranked Panthers were upset by Grapevine, 77-68, in overtime, before rebounding with a 60-41 victory over McKinney Boyd in early evening play. The Panthers are now 15-3 and were led in the win over Boyd by senior forward Christie Mooney's 24 points, eight rebounds and game-high tying eight steals. Pflugeville now faces Mansfield Legacy in third-round (consolation bracket play) Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 1:15 p.m. at Legacy HS.
In the win over McKinney Boyd, the Panthers jumped out to a 31-19 lead at intermission. Joining Mooney in double-figure scoring was sophomore forward Itiana Taylor (10 points), who also had eight steals. Junior forward Adesuwa Ebomyoni added a team-high 15 rebounds to the winning effort.
In the overtime loss to Grapevine, Mooney and Ebomwonyi led the way with double-doubles. Mooney had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Ebomwonyi collected 15 points and 14 rebounds.
