Posted Jan 15/10 - Pflugerville moves to 21-4, stays undefeated in District play while handing Connally its first District loss, 70-49, behind four in double-figure scoring

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- The No. 16 state-ranked Pflugerville varsity registered a key 70-49 away game win over cross-town rival and District opponent Connally HS on Friday evening, as the two squads had entered the game tied atop the District 25-A standings. The win moves the Panthers to 21-4 and keeps Pflugerville undefeated (at 7-0) in District action. Connally is now 16-7 overall and suffered its first District loss (6-1), dropping out of a tie for first with the Panthers.  The balanced Pflugerville attack saw four players in double-figure scoring.

The Panthers led by just five points at intermission (31-26) before outscoring the Cougars 15-7 in the third period to extend the lead to 46-33 going into the final quarter. P'ville then exploded for 25 points in the final eight minutes to pull away for the win.

Senior forward Christie Mooney led the way with 17 points for the Panthers, while junior post DyMesheon (Dee) Hyder and sophomore forward Itiana Taylor each had 11 points. Sophomore guard Ari Booth chipped in with 10 points. P'ville junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi added eight points and pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds. Mooney finished with seven rebounds and Taylor had six.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, hosting District opponent Bastrop in a 7 p.m. contest at the Panther Gym. (Note: game start time moved up one half hour from original 7:30 p.m. start to 7 p.m.).


 

Pflugerville JV and Freshman "A" squads both move to 22-1 with wins over Connally

The Panther JV and Freshman "A" teams continue their undefeated District competition as well, and both improve to 22-1 overall with decisive wins over Connally Friday night.

The Pflugerville JV recorded a 62-27 win while the frosh "A" team won handily, 63-23, holding Connally to just 11 points over the final three quarters.

In the freshman "A" game, Pflugerville was led by Taylor Ross with 19 points. The JV game saw sophomore guard Tayliah Brooks finish with a game-high 23 points and freshman post Diane Omozee add 10 points.
