June 5 is International Trails Day and the Club has reason to be excited!
The image you see at right is a draft of a sign to be posted close to Giants Field on the Northeast Pioneers
Greenway (also known as the walking trail along the old tracks) between Riverton and Chalmers. On June 5, the historical signage
will be unveiled as part of an event called "Celebrating Community Support".
From 10:00 AM to Noon that day, the River East Neighbourhood Network Trail Committee (RENN-TC) will host a launch
event for the collection of new signs (including the one shown!) on the trail itself, across from the Co-op Gas Bar and Tim Hortons
on Gateway near McLeod. We hope to see many of you out to support this worthwhile cause and celebrate the trail's connections to the
area's past.
You can find out more about the RENN-TC on their web site.
You can also find a larger version of the sign image here.
The picture is one we have featured previously in our newsletter. It is of Giants Field on Opening Day in 1947. The
scoreboard is the same one the Club is replacing only this year!
Refer back to this site for more updates.
The Club thanks the RENN-TC for choosing to highlight the Giants in this way along the Northeast Pioneers
Greenway. We applaud their efforts to improve the area and reconnect residents with its history.
