The
Sussex Hamilton 8th grade red team won
the Kettle Moraine Tournament this past weekend by defeating Waukesha North
58-22, Franklin 59-17, a very good Kettle Moraine team 51-29, and one of the
better teams in the state at the 8th grade level, Grafton
Select 48-39.
The boys played
stifling defense all day Sunday to propel them to the championship. In the
first two games every player scored and contributed quality minutes. Ben Nolde
returned to form, contributing both on the offensive and defensive ends of the
floor all weekend long. Jordan Smith led the charge vs Kettle Moraine with a 19
pt 5 reb effort. Bradley Purko added a team leading 6 rebs and also hit two
timely jump shots. The team was very solid from the charity stripe making 15 of
17 attempts.
In the championship
game Sam Bjorkland could not be stopped. He turned in a very impressive
performance finishing with 19 pts and 7 rebs. Jordan Smiths was physical on
the defensive side of the ball and held one of the better 8th grade
players in the state in check. Hamilton imposed their will on Grafton from
start to finish. The team really came together this weekend. They played very
well on the defensive end, executed the game plan, and shared the ball. All the
boys contributed in some capacity through out the entire weekend.
