Posted Jul 8/12 - Angels are Big League Experience Champions
The Abbotsford Angels treated fans to an outstanding weekend of baseball from July 6-8. They ran the table to go 5 and 0 to win the Bantam Division of the Big League Experience tourney in Kamloops.  This tournament attracts rep teams from Washington, BC, and Alberta.  The Angels played a team from Calgary in the opener, followed by Southern Okanagan, and then North Shore.  The team finished the first round with a 3-0 record.
In the semi-final, The Angels met a familiar opponent in Aldergrove. A team that has played well against Abbotsford in recent games. The Angels prevailed with an 8-0 victory.    Richmond was the opponent in the championship game played in 35 degree temperature. Abbotsford hadn't seen Richmond in over a month and a very improved Richmond team showed early in the game that they came to play hard.  But the Angels showed not only skill but discipline and mental toughness as they battled through the heat and kept focused on the goal.  Final score Angels 3, Richmond 1.
This was truly a team effort as all players contributed to the successful weekend.  Batters showed patience, power and clutch hitting in key situations. The highlight hit of the weekend was a sweet, monster home run by Tanner. But it was also a key bunt layed down by Chase to score the winning run in the championship game that was a key factor.
Base-runners showed savvy smarts throughout the weekend as they kept the opposing pitchers and catchers busy and pre-occupied as the Angels stole bases once again in key situations.
Our pitchers all pitched well. When opponents threatened to score, the pitchers bore down and came back strong.
The always impressive Angels defence once again showed why they are a difficult team to score against.  The stingy defence held opposing teams to a total of 4 runs over the entire five games.  In contrast, the Angels offence scored 50 runs in total.
It was also a great family weekend all players, siblings and parents enjoyed. The Abby Pee Wee AAA team also won their division so it made a very successful weekend for Abbotsford baseball.
Special thanks to all the parents and families who came to support team.   Angels players should be very proud of this accomplishment. Take a moment to savour the win but then get back to business this week as there are some key games to be played!  Check out the "Photos" section to see pictures of weekend action. Sorry, no batting photos this time as our staff photographer was busy coaching 1st!
Go Angels.
