Posted Aug 3/12 - Angels take first two games at Provincials

The Abbotsford Angels quest for the provincial championship began on Thursday with two games at Blundell Park in Richmond.  In game one, the Angels faced a scrappy Cloverdale Red team who played well against the Angels during a couple of regular season games.  Jonah started on the mound and pitched well. He was relieved by Austen late in the game.  Abbotsford's bats weren't as hot as they would have liked but it was enough to power them to victory.  As always, their defense was difficult to score against.  Final score, Angels 4, Cloverdale 1.

The afternoon game was played under sunny skies and warm weather against the host Richmond team. The last time these two teams faced off was in the final at the Kamloops Big League Experience tournament which the Angels won 3-1. So the Angels knew that Richmond would be out for revenge.  Jordan started on the mound and pitched great for 5 1/2 innings.  He was relieved by Keaton who also threw well and kept Richmond's bats at bay.  Having learned from their first game, the Angels batters were ready this time and they got to the Richmond pitcher early and took a 4-1 lead.  In the remaining 3 innings, the Angels continued to build on their lead one run at a time.  Richmond never really got their bats going although they did leave runners stranded on 3rd a couple of times.  Final score Angels 7, Richmond 1.

The Angels take step three towards the provincial finals on Friday at 5:15 vs. the always tough Vancouver Mounties.  They finish round-robin play on Saturday at noon against the Victoria Red Eagles who defeated the Mounties 2-1 in a marathon 10 inning game on Thursday.

The top two teams in each draw advance to the semi-finals on Sunday.  The Angels plan to be there.

A special congrats to Tanner who made it to the semi-finals of the home run derby on Thursday night!

Go Angels.
