Posted Aug 4/12 - Thin Outlaws Crew Gets Spanked in Le Seuer

9 Man Outlaw's Team Travels to Le Seuer and Suffers 9-0 Shalacking.

It was a beautiful day in Le Seuer this past Saturday as the Southwest Outlaws sqaured off against the 10-3 Le Seuer Henderson Legends.  Another thin weekend roster wise for the Outlaws with many players busy with other summer plans.

Mike Roth was forced into action on the bump for Outlaws, making his second start of the season and the second of his life.

Another quiet day at the plate for Outlaws hitters as the Le Seuer pitcher (No Name in the book) did a great job locating his pitches and changing speeds.  The Outlaws went down in order in the first.  Mike Roth also secured a scoreless home half.

"The Hammer" or "Magic" (Depends who you ask since he is a good dancer) Mike Roth tried to help his cause leading off the second inning one hopping a double off the right center field fence.  The Le Seuer pitcher quickly snuffed out the would be rally by striking out the next three Outlaw's hitters in order.  Le Seuer then secured the early lead by plating two runs in the bottom of the 2nd.

In the third, the Outlaw's again attempted to get things going with Chad Wiertzema leading things off with a walk.  The next two Outlaw's hitters were retired.  Jeff Appel then got rid of all the baseballs by fouling off about 10 pitches, then finally adding a walk of his own.  With two outs and runners on 1st and 2nd, Ryan Meyer absolutely urinated on a ball right at the 2nd baseman for a ground out and the inning was over.  Ryno hit it as hard as you can hit a baseball but one hopped the Le Seuer infielder.  Roth started the bottom of the third on a great note striking out the first two Le Seuer batters he faced.  A two out rally would plate an additional run though, and the lead was extended to 3-0 heading into the 4th.

Things remained silent in the top of 4 for the Outlaws with Troy Fritz reaching after being hit by a pitch.  Le Seuer quickly gathered the remaining two outs and maintained the shutout.  Le Seuer used 3 walks, an error, and 4 hits to open things up in the home half, scoring 6 runs before Pat Nelson relieved Roth and ended the inning. When it was all said and done Le Seuer was sporting a 9-0 lead.

The Outlaws went down in order in the 5th.  Pat Nelson kept the Legends off of the scoreboard in the bottom of 5, pitching around 2 more Outlaws errors.  The inning was highlighted by a nifty 5-4-3 double play.  Mike Ringnell fielded the throw from Mike Roth and took a bit of time to realize the ball was actually in his glove at 2nd, but once he did...he lased one over to Ryan Meyer at first and the rally was killed.

Things in the 6th started out looking promising for the Outlaws.  Jeff Appel led things of with a duck fart single to right followed by an infield single by Meyer.  Mike Roth was then plunked in the ribs and the bases were loaded with nobody out.  The Le Seuer pitcher was not having any of it though as he retired the next three Outlaws hitters in order and ended the rally.

That was the end of the day as far as offense for the Outlaws and Le Seuer.  Pat Nelson did a good job of quieting the Lengends bats pitching a scoreless 6th.  Pat finished the final 2 2/3rd innings and did a great job only allowing 1 run.  Mike Roth also pitched well striking out 4 Le Seuer hitters in 3 1/3rd innings of work.

Another tough day all around as the Outlaws only managed 3 hits.  Mike Roth finished up 1 for 2 with a double, Jeff Appel was also 1 for 2 with a single and walk.  Ryan Meyer had the only other hit and finished the day 1 for 3.

Tid Bits

Only one more game prior to state tournament play.  The Outlaws will travel to Faribault next Sunday to take on Bloomington.  Seeding for State play should be completed over the next week and Outlaw's game times and locations will be posted to the schedule immediately.  Looking forward to two fun weekends of State Play.  The "Perm" watch begins.  :)
