Posted Jan 31/14 - Shoulder Surgery Could Sideline Appel For 2014 Season
Jeff Appel underwent arthroscopic surgery in his throwing shoulder on January 30th.

After injuring his right shoulder prior to the start of the Outlaws 2013 season, Jeff Appel played last season with continued pain in his throwing arm.  An early August cortisone injection didn't offer much relief, so upon the completion of the season Appel headed in for an MRI.

The MRI results showed a torn labrum that would require surgery to repair.  That surgery took place at Tria Orthopaedic on January 30th under the care of surgeon Dr. Braman.  Recovery for this type of surgery typically requires 6 weeks or more in a sling followed by extensive rehabilitation.  Throwing a baseball could start in as soon as 6 months after surgery, but it is a case by case basis.  A more realistic prognosis has Appel looking at a 2015 return to the diamond.

Appel is reportedly recovering well from the successful surgery sitting on his couch doped out of his mind on pain meds.
