July 16, 2012 rockets defeat Chicago cubs 3 game set

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland

The Portland rockets hosted the Indiana cubs 2 games sat and one game Sunday

The cubs from the region area did not find the hosts gracious. Rockets take the 3 game set, 12-1, 12-0 and 17-0.  the rocket attack was bolstered by the return of Yorktown ss

Zach tanner. Zach recently released by the gary railcats. The wright state product flashed some leather this weekend and also homered sat and sun.

Lets give some kudos to the cubs,,,,they showed up and played it out with dignity.  Coach mark pavuk spent 2 nites in Portland and said he will be back next year.  He was impressed with our club and the atmosphere.  Our pa guy dan haines plays my kind of music and does sucha nice job

They came at a bad time, after 2 losses during the week to the ohio warhawks, the rockets were looking to mash.  Mitch waters had 6 hits in the 3 games, tanner, Dalton tinsely, billy wellman, Kirby Campbell all had 5 hits. Rockets had 3 home runs in the 3 games, 2 by zach tanner and one by adam Wilson.

Sat rockets starter mitch waters went 5 inn 81 pitches scattered 6 hits 1 run. Tyler Reynolds 2 scoreless innings in relief.  In the nitecap, dan bollenbacher followed up with a shortened 5 inn game winning 12-0 giving up no runs 3 hits.

Rockets wore their  Sunday best, their Sunday vests,,,,the other more old style uniform.

The 21 rockets on hand all but one got in the game. Michael caley on the hill, and he was dominant.  Caley went 6 inning giving up but one hit rockets cruise to a 17-0 win. Caley only had pitched 39 pitches thru 5 innings, hardly a workout. Ethan daggett, cody Harrison and travis gray finished up. 

Good friend , former rocket from the 90’s john bailey in the house,,,,also receiving a rocket t-shirt in a pregame ceremony, Richmond legion coach morris mccreery on hand.

Rockets score 17 runs and that airhorn of Rodney miles was blaring.

Perhaps the highlite of the day,  the potato gun!  Rodney mentioned sat he might just bring out the launcher to jim runkle, jim said do it and I will bring the potatoes.  And man, that thing is literally a blast.  And for kicks, Rodney launch one over the fence and some 4 year old kids got to run around the bases –how about that!! Rodney noted that all the rockets came out of the dugout, amazed at the spectacular bombs---the last one landed by the pee wee football field beyond center field. 

A big weekend in Portland, it rained a half inch and the field looked great.  Thanks doug blankenbaker for all your help-  thanks Kristi and analyse smith for helping out at the lunching pad.  Thanks gary pensinger for just being gary pensinger and special thanks to phil frantz for his very kind donation.

Congrats to the mr and mrs tyler newell.  Great folks and a great time at the reception sat. nite……grandparents larry and donna chittum could not have been any prouder.

Rockets win all 3 games this weekend over the Indiana cubs. that makes 9 games in 9 days.  No games this week, lima buckeyes belly up----rockets will have a batting practice workout thurs open to the public at 6 pm.  Next game is sat at Carrington field at 1 pm vs. ft. wayne jackers
