July 9, 2014 rockets 3 twin city bankers 0
Rocket notes:
Portland
rockets defeated twin city bankers tues evening 3-0 at runkle-miller field
Home sweet home, 1.4 in of rain, it just made our field
green and it played well.
In front of a sizeable crowd, rockets return home and play
well.
Portland
3 runs, 4 hits errors, bankers 0 runs , 2 hits, 2 errors.
Good pitching, defense and timely hitting, an old recipe for
success.
Shutout pitching and 6 stikeouts each by matt helm from marion, and Justin miller
from
Yorktown, and it was lights
out, helm pitched 4 yrs at grace his line 4 inn. 6 ks no hits 5 walks. Miller 3
inn 6 ks, 2 hits 1 walk.
Our good friend pastor Darrell borders shared with me a tony
larussa quote, the old manager of the cardinals said, “ the result many little
things is not little.”
Just like getting to that next base 90 feet away.
Exactly the point sports editor chris schanz brought to
light, small ball,
Get em on , get em over, get em in, I say,
Rockets used bunts by kyle selvey, logan barnes and Thomas mccowan and all three
figured into 3 runs.
Rockets scored in the 3rd 4th and 5th
inning, catcher cody crumlauf from auburn walked and selvey in his first rocket
at ab, executed the small ball bunt and an overthrow scored gary Williams running for our catcher. All star player and coach kyle selvey and his
dad lea, and josh and the family on hand, and we enjoyed having em,,, good luck
in the all star series this weekend, also on hand Wesley Hibbard of the
patriots
Great to visit with coach selvey ---he was part of some
great times in rockets lore,
He reminded me of a rain delay and he, myself and pat medler
shot bottle rockets at lamargarita dugout,,,I know this was pat medler’
doing,,,,,,
Crumlauf also drove in a run and picked off a runner at
first, this kid is a solid addition to our catching postion, all our pitchers
love throwing to him, blocking pitches in the dirt, and calling a strong game.
Alex delk from cowan had 2 hits, geoff bowers from lima, 1 hit. Mitch waters
had a sacrifice fly rbi to complete the scoring
Thanks to our bat boy reid claycomb #7 from the redkey all
–stars.
Great to see old rocket eli jones, he just may be Winchester high schools
next baseball coach.
coach rick Atkinson assistant coach at taylor
university and former pro player, was on hand and shared stories of his days in
the 60s playing in the Detroit
free press league
With teammate steve garvey –yep that guy from the la dodgers
Rockets win 3-0, 1 hr. 41 min in this titanic stuggle
Rockets record 15-9
More fun in store,
