July 17, 2015 summit
city sluggers 10- Portland
rockets 8
Good morning baseball
fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland. On a
hot summer nite, would you offer your neck to the wolf with the red roses, now there is a blast from the past, kinda makes me hungry for some meatloaf. Thurs nite in Portland the rockets served up the silver
platter to the summit city sluggers losing 10-8.
It was kinda hot, especially in the 7th inn. Score tied 3-3, starter mitch waters needed
one more out to make it through the inn. And we couldn’t find it,. Mitch with 2
out 2 on was tagged for 3 runs, and reliever Austin branock 3 also, they get 6 in the
inn.\
Waters goes 6 plus inn, 122 pitches 5 earned runs struck out
9.
It was a great crowd on hand, it was Crossroads financial credit union
nite, and man the golf carts were everywhere,. Now that crossroads team is
pretty spunky, games and prizes, and kids doing there thing,
It gives me that warm feeling to see so many people out
sharing and you cant beat fun at the ole
ballpark, tony Reynolds on hand almost
like a dj spicing it up with good music;
Becky white orchestrated the gaming, her redkey softball
team she coaches were state champs at one time, her son shane a fine rocket
pitcher some years ago. The bob clark family
on board. A special thanks to jim
gehinger and his wife for their contribution to the home team. Hey even my
sister mickey was on hand. A special happy birthday wish today to our rocket
favorite, mariloyn maloy now living in ft wayne. Love ya in portland
Rockets did make it interesting a 3 run home run by alex
delk closed the gap, his second in 2 nites, a 2 run single by tom mccowan made
it 10-8 and we had the tying run on second but not to be as the rockets
stranded 13 runners on their second nite in a row of 13 hits.
3 glaring errors too contributed.
Delk , waters gesslin, mccowan and Brandon mccowan all had 12 hits.
One of the highlights the crossroads gang singing take me
out to the ballpark, and dusty pierson 10 year old willie mays baseball throwing
out the first pitch. Just seeing all the
folks even from out of town, my friend neal spencer, my old teammate mark and
chris hearrn, and how about that rendition of the national anthem, Chelsea taylor, a bollenbacher, made chills
run up and down,
A great nite for baseball at the corner, I guess the
sluggers did not get the memo, we are to win on crossroads nite, janet bantz said emphatically we will do it
again next year.
Rockets return home sat 1 pm dh vs ft wayne
expos after playing them tonite in ft wayne,
Game tonite at Carrington field, tyler Reynolds the starter
Rockets record now 15-5
Like the old coach ray miller said, we wont win em all, but
well win the next one
