Posted Jun 14/10 - Warsaw Indians 2 --- Portland Rockets 0 Saturday June 12, 2010
Good Morning Baseball Fans -- It's a beautiful day in Portland!
Portland Rockets traveled to Grace College in Warsaw in Saturday to play a double-header against the Warsaw Indians. In a rain-shortened game (5 innings), Warsaw bested Portland by the score of 2-0.  That counts as a complete game and is the second consecutive game Portland has played that was stopped by rain. The game was a pitcher's duel times two. Dan Bollenbacher of Berne went all 5 innings, only 1 earned run and struck out 7 as he topped out at 92 mph. It took a hot of gas on a hot, humid day to do that!! We had 21 players but none of them  scored. Indians pitcher, Augustine, from Manchester College, was just a bit better, giving up just 2 hits to Thomas McCowan and 0 runs. Speaking of Manchester College, Jay County and Manchester All-Conference pitcher, Josh Atkinson, joined the team. He came down from law school orientation at Valparaiso University. Congrats, Josh, on all your honors and good luck in law school.  As the clouds rolled in, Derek Mounsey showed me his phone with the Doppler gizmo, and seconds later it was like Donkey Kong...rained in torrents! The game was called and Sunday's action in Fort Wayne was canceled as well. A Warsaw player mentioned during the delay that he wished we had played in Portland because they could have gone to the Greasy Pickle when the game was called. The Indians had quite a pow-wow there last year.

In talking with John Boggs this week, we noted all the fine sports programming made available by our local radio pg-14 and that is only made possible by our fine sponsors. So, a quick thanks to Williams Auto Parts, Jamar, Liggetts, and Strohls for being on Portland's team. Congratulations to the Miracle Lanes softball team and big tourney championship this weekend in St. Henry.  Congrats go out to Coach Gary Bernard, Scott Stauffer, Tyler Fullenkamp (former Rocket) and a good bunch of guys, they know how to win! They may come over and support the Rockets tonight in the double-header vs. Fort Wayne Cubs at 6 pm at Runkle-Miller Field. Billy Geeslin will be the starter on the mound for Game 1.  Happy Birthday to Tom Hirschy of Bryant.

Rockets lose to Warsaw Saturday 2-0...we won't win 'em all, just the next one!   Randy Miller  pg-14
