Portland Rockets win 10-6 over Shady Nook Jackers Tuesday June 29, 2010

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland.

Runkle-Miller Field was the scene for action, and plenty of it Tuesday night vs. Ft. Wayne Shady Nook Jackers.  Doubles, double plays, double ejections, and double your fun. Lets just say, as one wise coach said many a time,  "for when the one great scorer comes to mark against your name, he asks not if you won or lost, but did you beat Ft. Wayne"!

Portland beat Ft. Wayne, 10-6 before a large crowd ----the place was hopping!!! Bill Geeslin, Rocket starter, was dominate; shutting down the Jackers through 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit striking out 7.  Head coach from Indiana Tech, Kip McWilliams, was scouting Bill and had him on the jugs gun at 88 mph , topping out at 92...that is some serious heat. And how neat that his mom and grandma were there to see it. Portland scored 2 in the 1st , Williams again the catalyst, single stole second, scored on Mark Isenberg's hit, he scored on Thomas McCowan’s single.   Riley Muhlenkamp plated Michael Ingram in the third to put the Rockets ahead 3-2. Then the doubles started.  In the 5th , Bill Geeslin and Nook outfielder, Richard Berich, exchanged pleasantries and were both thrown out.  Double ejection----key double by Chris Tillery from Earlham College drove in 2 runs and Rockets push to a 9-2 lead.  But its never easy,  6 Rocket pitchers used in the game gave up 13 walks but just 4 hits. A Jacker threat was thwarted on a nifty double play by second baseman Tillery, as he gloved the ball, tagged out the runner passing by, and fired to first to get out a bases loaded jam in the 8th.  Rockets had 13 hits, 2 each by Ingram, Bryce Cook, John Clawson, and Tillery, to stay unbeaten at home this season.

Kudos to the City Parks Department for their efforts in making the field playable, and also to Rocky Williams for his help.

Quite the buzz on the corner last evening and we get to do it again tonite, Decatur dirty birds coming to town,  lets give em a real Portland welcome.

Former rockets jobe, takats, mann chittum, stauffer were on hand and they were giving the ft. wayne coach the Portland welcome when he too was ejected.

Speaking of former rockets, I saw UCLA in the college baseball world series, and they were there also in 1969,, that is about the time Portland standout athlete mike Ashley was pitching for ucla.

So what’s happening?

Its happening at the ballpark, brad had to go get more buns, and we are selling fishers award winning rocket dogs so come on out and root, root root for the home team

Decatur vs Portland big rivalry matchup tonnite 7pm at the corner  eathan tribolet the starter
