Posted Jul 21/10 - Rockets win 7-3 over Indiana Wesleyan
Portland Rockets 7 Indiana Wesleyan 3 July 20, 2010

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland!

The Portland Rockets hosted the Indiana Wesleyan Tuesday night at Runkle-Miller Field, but the hosts were not that hospitable. Game ended with Rockets 7 runs and Indiana Wesleyan University 3 runs. Two runs in the 2nd inning, 2 runs in the 3rd inning and 3 more in the 5th and the Rockets jumped to a 7-0 lead. Derek Mounsey of DePauw University had plenty of to work with. Derek pitched 5 innings (no runs, 1 hit, and struck out 5). Will Walters pitched 3 more shutout innings, striking out 4, giving up just 2 hits. Tom McCowan pitched the 9th inning for the home team. Rockets had 11 hits by 10 different hitters. Mark Isenberg, the only player with 2 hits, led off the 2nd with a triple off the left-center field fence, right off the Pac-a-Sac sign. He scored on a double steal executed along with Michael Ingram, then Ingram scored on a two out 2 strike bingo by Bryce Cook. Third inning RBI to Bryan Brudi and Ingram and the Rockets were rolling. One of the longest balls hit on the day by Laramee VanSkyock, but he was on their ball club to help fill out their lineup. Corey Locke, Rocket outfielder from the 2005 and 2006 teams, is now in the coaching ranks. He brought along some of his players also to round out the roster.
A large crowd on hand saw the Rockets win 7-3 in 2 hours and 9 minutes. (They had a 3 hour rain delay in Cincinnati last night). Lots of those same little guys who participated in our instructional clinic were running around at the park last night. And you know what, we lost only 1 foul ball last night---- how about that for payback. Thanks fellows love ya in Portland!

Tonight the Rockets move north on Hwy 27 to play a rivalry game with the Decatur Dirty Birds at Bellmont High School. Game time 7:15pm.

We knocked off those Dirty Birds last time we played. What is a dirty bird????? Tyler Mills is the starter for Rockets tonight.

Our next home games are Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget the carry-in lunch after the double-header on Sunday. We are all behind our baseball team! Go get 'em, Portland Rockets!

This is randy miller pg 14
