Posted Nov 30/10 - Strong start, great defensive pressure propels Pflugerville to 63-47 win over Cedar Park in battle of two state-ranked teams
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Behind a defensive effort which allowed just 18 first-half points and the play of senior post Nneka Enemkpali who registered game-highs of 17 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, the No. 11 state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers defeated Cedar Park, 63-47, Tuesday evening at Cedar Park.

The Panthers, ranked 11th in this weeks Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC)/TexPreps 5A poll,  improve to 7-2. Cedar Park, ranked No. 3 in the TABC/Tex Preps poll in the 4A division, drops to 10-2.

Other top Pflugerville performances were turned in by sophomore guard Taliyah Brooks who finished with 12 points, while senior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi and senior guard Raveen Burton each chipped in with nine points. Junior Itiana Taylor had eight points, five rebounds and three steals. Ebonwonyi also pulled down five rebounds.

Pflugerville jumped out to a 37-18 halftime lead as they held the Timberwolves to just two points in the second period, outscoring Cedar Park 15-2 in the eight-minute second period. P'ville limited Cedar Park to 36.8 percent shooting in the first half while the Panthers connected on 56 percent of their first half field goal attempts, hitting 14 of 25 from the floor.

Enemkpali had 12 points and five rebounds in the first half, and finished the game making six of eight field goals attempted to go with a five-for-eight effort from the free throw line.

In the second half, Cedar Park could get no closer than 13 points. After Cedar Park made a three-pointer with 2:36 to go in the third quarter to draw to within 13 points of the P'ville lead (44-31), the Panthers responded with two baskets to push the lead to 17. A pullup jumper by Brooks made the score 46-31, and following a Cedar Park turnover, Enemkpali scored on a putback for a 48-31 edge with 38 seconds left in the third quarter.

Cedar Park hit three 3-pointers in the waning minutes of the game to close the final gap to 15 points.

The Timberwolves shot 39.5 percent for the game (17 of 43), while the Panthers made 23 of 50 field goals they attempted (46 percent). The Panthers controlled the board, out-rebounding Cedar Park 32-23. Pflugerville had 16 steals to Cedar Park's four.

Pflugerville returns to action on Friday, Dec. 3 when it travels to Waco Robinson HS for a 6:30 p.m. contest. Only the P'ville varsity will face Robinson, as the other Panther teams will be in action at the Pflugerville Freshman and JV Tournament Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 2-4.

Panther JV, Freshman Gold and Blue teams register wins over Cedar Park to complete Pflugerville sweep of the Timberwolves

CEDAR PARK, Texas - All four of the Pflugerville teams came away victorious against Cedar Park Tuesday evening, with the Panther JV defeating the Timberwolves 43-16, the undefeated Pflugerville freshman Gold (A) squad winning 68-39, and the freshman Blue (B) team posting a 41-24 win.

The Panther JV moves to 8-1 with the win, which was highlighted by 10 points apiece from Jonelle Smith and Diana Omozee.

The Pflugerville freshman Gold squad moved to 7-0 with its 29-point win as Makyndra Simmons had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Kalea King added 10 points. The freshman Blue team is now 4-1, and was led by Sam Olivares' 10 points and Chiderah Onuoha's game-high 12 rebounds.

All three of these Panther squads will be in action at their own Pflugerville Freshman and JV Tournament taking place Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 2-4 at Pflugerville High School's two gyms.
