Posted Dec 11/10 - Pflugerville JV and Freshmen win divisional championships at Georgetown Tournament

GEORGETOWN, Texas-- The Pflugerville JV and undefeated freshmen Gold (A team) girls basketball squads all went undefeated at the annual Georgetown Tournament Thursday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 11, and both Panther squads returned with the championship trophies in their respective divisions.

The Pflugerville JV went 4-0 in the two-day tournament to improve to 16-1 on the season. On Dec. 9, P'ville defeated Cedar Ridge JV 57-27 and Vista Ridge by a 46-12 score. Saturday, Pflugerville faced two Georgetown teams in the semifinals and title game, defeating the Georgetown White (sophomore team) 67-17 before registering a 54-41 win over the Georgetown JV in the finals.

Taylor Ross (15 points) and Brenisha Payne (13) led the way in the championship game after Diana Omozee (17 points) and Amy Staha (13) paced the Panthers in the semifinal win.

On Thursday, Jonelle Smith netted a game-high 14 points and Staha added 10 points against Cedar Ridge, while Staha had 13 points in the win over Vista Ridge.

In Saturday's Freshman division championship, the Panthers Gold (A) squad defeated their Georgetown counterparts, 64-45. Kalea King led the way with 16 points, four assists and four steals while Jaden Strum and Makyndra Simmons chipped in with 10 points each.

The P'ville Gold team is now 13-0 on the season.

The Panther freshmen had opened tourney play Thursday with decisive wins over Cedar Ridge and Vista Ridge.

All Panther teams are in action on Tuesday, Dec. 14 when they host San Antonio Wagner. Prior to the varsity's 7:30 p.m. tipoff between the two state-ranked opponents, the JV game is at 5:30 p.m. in the Panther (main) gym. The Freshman Gold squads also play at 5:30 p.m. in the small gym on the Pflugerville HS campus. The Freshman Blue game follows the Freshman Gold game at 7 p.m. in the small gym.
