Posted Jan 4/11 - State-ranked Panthers post decisive 56-19 win over District opponent Westwood to move to 19-4 overall and to 3-0 in District play
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - The Pflugerville girls varsity, ranked 10th in the state, got game-highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds from senior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi and 10 points from senior guard Jasymn Booker en route to a 56-19 victory over Westwood High School Tuesday in District 16-5A action. The game took place at the Panther Gym on "PHS Teacher Appreciation Night." The Panthers' No. 10 ranking is courtesy of the weekly Texas Basketball Coaches Association (TABC)/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine poll.

The double-double (double figure scoring and rebounding totals) by Ebomwonyi was the Tulane University signee's fifth in the last six games. Ebomwonyi also added four blocks and a game-high four steals for the Panthers.

Pflugerville improve to 19-4 overall and remains undefeated (3-0) in District play. The Panthers limited Westwood (6-12, 1-2 in District action) to just seven first-half points and Pflugerville's defensive pressure forced 25 Warrior turnovers. The Panthers had 17 steals and 11 blocks in the game.

Pflugerville jumped out to a 19-5 lead after the first period and increased the lead to 25, 34-7, at intermission.

Senior forward Kaela Thompson added seven points and five rebounds to the Panther effort, while senior post Shari Stewart chipped in with six points, four rebounds and three blocks. Junior forward Itiana Taylor (five points) pulled down eight rebounds and tied Ebomwonyi for the game-high in blocks with four.

Pflugerville returns to action on Friday, Jan. 7 when it travels to District opponent McNeil High School for a 7:30 p.m. clash.

Panther JV and Freshman Blue squads post victories over their Westwood counterparts

Pflugerville swept all three basketball games against Westwood Tuesday evening with the Panther JV cruising to a 57-15 win and the Freshman Gold (A) squad stopping the Warrior freshman, 69-4.

The JV squad was led by three in double-figure scoring: sophomore forward Diana Omozee (game-high 16 points), sophomore guard Taylor Ross (12 points) and sophomore forward Destini Oakmon.

The freshman Gold received 15 points from post Makyndra Simmons and 14 from guard Kalea King in their big win. Westwood fielded only one freshman squad so the Panther Freshman Blue (B squad) did not compete.

In nest action, all three of these Panther teams will be in action Friday, January 7 against McNeill. The action at McNeill HS begins with the 5:15 p.m. Freshman Gold game, followed by the JV contest (6 p.m.) and Freshman Blue (6:45 p.m.) competitions.
