Posted Jan 27/11 - Pflugerville uses mid-game run to post 71-42 win over Westwood, moving to 24-5 overall; Tuesday's game versus McNeill is Pflugerville "Pink Zone" night
AUSTIN, Texas - The state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers outscored Westwood 24-10 in the last 11 minutes of the first half, building a 30-18 lead en route to a 71-42 victory in District 16-5A action Friday night at Westwood HS.

Three Panthers notched double-figure scoring. Junior guard Jasmyn Booker came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers. Senior post Nneka Enemkpali added 12 points while senior guard Raveen Burton had 10 points. Junior forward Itiana Taylor had nine points.

Eleven different Panthers scored and nine players had at least one assist as Pflugerville used its traditional well-balanced scoring attack to move to 24-5 overall.

Pflugerville continues to hold onto the No. 10 spot in the TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine weekly poll and stands alone in second place in District 16-5A action with an 8-1 mark. The Panthers are 6-1 in their last seven games and have a four-game win streak.

Pflugerville, led by eight rebounds from Enemkpali and seven from senior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi, dominated on the boards as it out-rebounded Westwood by a 36-11 margin.

Trailing 8-6 with 3:58 to play in the first quarter, the Panthers went on an 11-0 run to close out the quarter, capped by a 3-pointer from sophomore Taliyah Brooks with three seconds to go, and led 17-8.

Pflugerville led 30-18 at the half after shooting 12 for 19 in the first two quarters. The Panthers held an 11-6 margin in rebounding in the first half as well. Enemkpali (eight points) and Burton (seven points) led the way after two periods.

The Panthers executed well on offense, finishing the game with 16 assists while shooting a crisp 60.0 percent from the floor. Pflugerville also was sharp at the free throw line, connecting on 12 of 15 free throws.

The third period saw the Panthers pull away as they out-scored the Warriors 18-9 to lead 48-27 with one quarter to go.

For the game, P'ville held the Warriors to just 33.3 percent accuracy from the floor as Westwood made 13 of 39 shots attempted. Westwood went 17 for 19 in foul shots.

Westwood was paced by a game-high 27 points from forward Felicia Oakman.

Pflugerville returns to the court on Tuesday, Feb. 1 hosting McNeill High School in a 7:30 p.m. game. The game is the Panthers' Women's Basketball Coaches Association "Pink Zone" game in support of breast cancer research. All fans are encouraged to wear pink and donations will be collected for Pink Zone funds. Over the past four years, the WBCA Pink Zone initiative has raised a phenomenal amount of awareness for breast cancer, as well as a significant amount of donations for women's cancer research. The WBCA's charity of choice is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Pflugerville JV, Freshmen A teams win


The Pflugerville JV and freshman Gold (A) teams both defeated Westwood on Friday.

The JV cruised to a 63-21 victory over their junior varsity counterparts. Jonelle Smith finished with 13 points while Breneisha Payne added 10 points and Destini Oakmon had nine points.
