Posted Feb 5/11 - Pflugerville will finish second in District 16-5A after dropping 66-62 decision to Georgetown; Panthers close out regular season Tuesday at home versus Leander

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Outscored 15-9 in the final period when foul trouble and an injury shook their lineup, the state's 10th-ranked Pflugerville Panthers saw their chances for another district championship end with a 66-62 setback to No. 2 ranked Georgetown in District 16-5A action Saturday night.

Pflugerville stands 25-6 overall and 9-2 in the District and will finish in second place in the seven-team league.  On January 11, the Panthers lost to the Lady Eagles 58-50 in the first meeting at Panther Gym. Georgetown is 25-3 sits atop the league at 11-0.

The Panther close out the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 8 at home against Leander on "Panther Senior Night."

Pflugerville dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Lady Eagles 32-18. The Panthers turned the ball over just five times, a season low. The difference was the fourth-quarter scoring and free throws. P'ville went to the line just seven times, making four free throws, while the Lady Eagles went 13-for-19 from the foul line.

The Panthers trailed by for at intermission, 39-35, before opening the second half with standout defense. Georgetown missed their first eight shots and the Panthers took advantage by going on a 10-0 run to lead 45-39 following a three-pointer by senior post Nneka Enemkpali with 4:52 left in the quarter. Georgetown countered with a 10-4 run to tie the game 49-all with 2:09 left. After trading baskets, the Panthers took a 53-51 lead into the final period following a spin move and 10-foot jumper from junior forward Itiana Taylor.

In the final quarter, the Panthers were hampered by fouls which forced Enemkpali and Taylor to the bench and an injury to junior guard Ari Booth. A fastbreak layup by LSU-signee Krystal Forthan gave Georgetown the lead for good, 55-54 with six and a half minutes to go.

The Booth injury happened with 4:01 left to play and the Panthers down 59-54. Booth positioned herself to take a charge on a Georgetown fast break attempt by Kaitlin Walla but was hit in the chest and fell backward on the court. The game was halted for over 20 minutes as Booth was attended to and taken away on a stretcher.

Taylor led the balanced Panther scoring attack with 11 points and added five rebounds and two steals. Junior guard Jasmyn Booker and Enemkpali each finished with 10 points. Booth had scored nine points and had three assists prior to her injury, while senior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi also chipped in with nine points and collected a team-high nine rebounds. Enemkpali pulled down seven boards and a game-high five blocks.

Lady Eagle Emily Johnson scored a game-high 20 points and Fortham added 17 points.

Pflugerville JV trounces Georgetown, Panther freshmen teams split

The Pflugerville JV defeated Georgetown by a 74-31 margin, defeating the Lady Eagles for the second time this year while remaining undefeated (11-0) in District play. Sophomore forward Diana Omozee led the way with 15 points while sophomore guard Amy Staha had 14 points to lead a balancing Panther scoring surge. P'ville led at intermission, 27-16 and opened up the game in the third quarter when it out-scored the Lady Eagles 24-13.

The Pflugerville freshman Gold (A) team posted a 62-42 win over its Georgetown counterparts behind Alyssa Echols. The Freshman Blue (B) team lost a 33-21 decision and was led by Tywanni Hardman (six points).
